The Hyksos capital in the northeastern Nile Delta. The Egyptians destroyed Avaris around 1530 bc when they drove the Hyksos out of Egypt. The site of Tell el-Dab’a is commonly accepted as the location of Avaris.

Avaris
Avaris (uh-vahr´is), the capital of the Asiatic Hyksos in the eastern Nile Delta. It was overrun by Egyptian forces in the resurgence beginning the New Kingdom (ca. 1530 bce). Avaris may be modern Tell el-Dab‘a or possibly San el-Hagar, ancient Tanis, both of which have impressive remains. See also Hyksos;
