A mountain pass on the south border of Judah (Num 34:4; Josh 15:3; Judg 1:36). The word עַקְרָב‎ (aqrav) means “scorpion”—the place-name was “Ascent of Scorpions.”The Ascent of Akrabbim was at the southwest corner of the Dead Sea and was part of the boundary between Judah and Edom. Here, Judas Maccabeus defeated the Edomites (1 Macc 5:3).
