Excerpt from the Lexham Bible Dictionary, the most advanced Bible dictionary.
Son of the high priest, Zadok. He remained loyal to David during the rebellions of Absalom and of Adonijah (1 Chr 6:8–9, 53).He and Jonathan son of Abiathar stayed behind when David fled from Absalom (2 Sam 15:27) and informed David of Absalom’s activities (2 Sam 17:17). When Absalom was preparing to pursue David, they told David to cross the Jordan and escape (2 Sam 17:21–22). Ahimaaz and Jonathan hid in a well to escape Absalom’s servants (2 Sam 17:18).Ahimaaz carried the news to David after Joab killed Absalom (2 Sam 18:19). When David asked him if Absalom was dead, he pretended not to know. David asked Ahimaaz to stand aside so that the Cushite, Joab’s messenger, could tell him his news. After this episode, nothing more is recorded about Ahimaaz, except that he was the father of Azariah (1 Chr 6:9).
