AESORA (PLACE) [Gk Aisōra (Αἰσωρα)]. A site mentioned in the book of Judith, whose exact location is unknown (Jdt 4:4). It forms part of the list of towns N of Jerusalem called upon to defend the city from attack by HOLOFERNES. The Greek name may be a translation of the Hebrew Hazor (Heb ḥāṣôr)

AESORA Town alerted to prepare for the invasion of Holofernes, Nebuchadnezzar’s chief general (Jdt 4:4). Most ancient translators omitted this city and mentioned only Samaria, Jericho, and sometimes Beth-horon. From the context, Aesora was probably north-northeast of Jerusalem.

Aesora i-soh′ruh (Αισωρα). A town on the borders of Samaria, mentioned along with Beth Horon, Jericho, and other cities (Jdt. 4:4; KJV, “Esora”). The location is uncertain, but it has been identified by some scholars with the Hazor of Josh. 11:1 or of Neh. 11:33. Others identify it with Jazer.

AESORA i-soh´ruh [Αἱσωρά Haisōra]. A city mentioned along with others to which Israelites living in Judah sent instructions to prepare for war against Nebuchadnezzar’s general HOLOFERNES (Jdt 4:4). This city has been identified as Hazor and as modern-day Khirbet Hazzur or Tell el-Qedah.
