Zechariah’s Fourth Vision

3 And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing beforea the angel of Yahweh; and Satanb was standing on his right to accuse him. But Yahweh said to Satan,c “Yahweh rebukes you, O Satan!d Yahweh who has chosen Jerusalem rebukes you! Is this not a stick snatched from the fire?” And Joshua was clothed in filthy garments and was standing beforee the angel. And he answered and said to the ones standing beforef him, saying, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” And he said to him, “See, I have taken away your guiltg from you, and will clothe you with rich garments.” And I said, “Let them put a clean headbandh on his head.” And they put a clean headband on his head, and they clothed him with garments. And the angel of Yahweh was standing by.

And the angel of Yahweh assured Joshua, saying, “Thus says Yahweh of hosts: ‘If you will walk in my ways, and if you will keep my requirements, then you will judgei my house, and you will also guard my courtyards, and I will give to you passagewaysj among these that are standing here. Listen, please, O Joshua the high priest, you and your companionsk that are sitting beforel you. For the men are a sign that,m look, I am going to bring my servant the Branch.n For consider, the stone that I set beforeo Joshua, on one stone are seven eyes.p Look, I am going to engrave an inscription on it,’q declaresr Yahweh of hosts, ‘and I will remove the guilt of that land in a single day. 10 On that day,’ declaress Yahweh of hosts, ‘you will invite one anothert under the vine and under the fig tree.’ ”

About The Lexham English Bible

The Lexham English Bible contains a translation of the original languages into smooth, readable English. It also contains copious footnotes which address translation issues, instances of Old Testament quotations in the New Testament, and various textual-critical issues. This translation also indicates the use of idioms in the Greek and Hebrew text. In cases where a literal rendering of Greek or Hebrew would prevent a smooth English translation, footnotes indicate the literal English translation, accompanied by explanatory notes as necessary.
