Name

Scripture refers to the 10th king of Judah as both Uzziah (עֻזִּיָּה, uzziyyah, “Yahweh is my strength”) and Azariah (עֲזַרְיָה, azaryah, “Yahweh has helped”). The two names are spelled similarly in Hebrew, suggesting the two forms are variant spellings. Alternatively, they may indicate the king’s given and throne name. The book of Kings prefers the name Azariah, while Chronicles prefers Uzziah.
