Isaac’s Marriage

Abraham sent his aged servant to find a wife for Isaac from among their kinfolk—he regarded Canaanite women as unworthy to marry into his family. God then lead the servant to Rebekah, the granddaughter of Abraham’s brother. The girl and her parents agreed that they must act as God has revealed to them. Rebekah returns to Canaan, meets Isaac, marries him, and becomes almost a substitute mother (Gen 24; compare 23:1–2). Isaac then moved away from his father’s residence to Beer-lahai-roi in the arid south.
