Location and History

Gerasa is 36 km (22 mi) north of Amman, 30 km (19 mi) east of the Jordan River, and 60 km (37 mi) southeast of the Sea of Galilee. The city appears to have had a long history; Stone Age sites are nearby, and evidence may attest to the city being heavily occupied in the 12th century bc.
