Psalm 74

||Maschil of Asaph.

O God, why hast thou acast us off for ever?

Why doth thine anger bsmoke against cthe sheep of thy pasture?

Remember thy congregation, which dthou hast purchased of old;

The ||erod of fthine inheritance, which gthou hast redeemed;

This mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.

Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual hdesolations;

Even iall that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.

Thine enemies iroar in the midst of thy jcongregations;

kThey set up their ensigns for signs.

A man was famous according as he had lifted up

Axes upon the thick trees.

But now they break down lthe carved work thereof

At once with axes and hammers.

mThey have cast fire into thy sanctuary,

nThey have defiled oby casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.

pThey said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together:

They have burned up all the jsynagogues of God in the land.

We see not our ksigns:

qThere is no more any prophet:

Neither is there among us any that knoweth rhow long.

10  O God, rhow long shall the adversary sreproach?

Shall the enemy sblaspheme thy name for ever?

11  Why twithdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand?

Pluck it out of thy bosom.

12  For uGod is my King of old,

Working salvation in the midst of the earth.

13  xThou didst divide the sea by thy strength:

yThou brakest the heads of the ||dragons in the waters.

14  Thou brakest the heads of zleviathan in pieces,

And gavest ahim to be meat bto the people inhabiting the wilderness.

15  cThou didst dcleave the fountain and the flood:

eThou driedst up mighty rivers.

16  The day is thine, the night also is thine:

Thou hast prepared fthe light and the sun.

17  Thou hast gset all the borders of the earth:

Thou hast made hsummer and winter.

18  iRemember this, that the enemy hath kreproached, O Lord,

And lthat mthe foolish people have kblasphemed thy name.

19  O deliver not the soul of nthy turtledove unto the omultitude of the wicked:

Forget not the ocongregation of thy poor for ever.

20  Have respect unto pthe covenant:

For qthe dark places of the earth are full of rthe habitations of cruelty.

21  O let not sthe oppressed return ashamed:

Let tthe poor and needy praise thy name.

22  Arise, O God, uplead thine own cause:

iRemember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.

23  Forget not the voice of thine enemies:

wThe tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.
