3 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which aI stir up your bpure minds by way of remembrance: 2 That cye may be mindful of the words dwhich were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us cthe apostles of the Lord and Saviour: 3 Knowing this first, that there shall come ein the last days scoffers, fwalking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, gWhere is the promise of hhis coming? for since the fathers ifell asleep, all things continue as they were jfrom the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that kby the word of God the heavens were lof old, and the earth †mstanding out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, nbeing overflowed with water, perished: 7 But othe heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto pfire against qthe day of judgment and rperdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and sa thousand years as one day. 9 tThe Lord is not slack concerning his promise, uas some men count slackness; but vis longsuffering to us-ward, wnot willing that any should perish, but xthat all should come to repentance. 10 But ythe day of the Lord will come as za thief in the night; in the which athe heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and bthe elements shall melt with fervent heat, cthe earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, dwhat manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy econversation and fgodliness, 12 gLooking for and ||hasting unto hthe coming of ithe day of God, wherein cthe heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and bthe elements cshall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, glook for knew heavens and a new earth, lwherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 mWherefore, beloved, seeing that ye glook for such things, be diligent nthat ye may be found of him in peace, owithout spot, and pblameless. 15 And account that qthe longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, rspeaking in them of these things; in which are some things shard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and tunstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, useeing ye know these things before, vbeware lest ye also, being led away with the error of wthe wicked, xfall from your own stedfastness. 18 yBut grow in grace, and in the zknowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. aTo him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
