Psalm 118

THANKSGIVING FOR VICTORY

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;

his faithful love endures forever.h

Let Israel say,

“His faithful love endures forever.”i

Let the house of Aaron say,

“His faithful love endures forever.”j

Let those who fear the Lord say,

“His faithful love endures forever.”k

I called to the Lord in distress;l

the Lord answered me

and put me in a spacious place.A,m

The Lord is for me; I will not be afraid.

What can a mere mortal do to me?n

The Lord is my helper;

therefore, I will look in triumph on those who hate me.o

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humanity.p

It is better to take refuge in the Lord

than to trust in nobles.q

10 All the nations surrounded me;

in the name of the Lord I destroyed them.r

11 They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me;

in the name of the Lord I destroyed them.s

12 They surrounded me like bees;t

they were extinguished like a fire among thorns;

in the name of the Lord I destroyed them.u

13 TheyB pushed me hard to make me fall,

but the Lord helped me.v

14 The Lord is my strength and my song;

he has become my salvation.w

15 There are shouts of joy and victory

in the tents of the righteous:

“The Lord’s right hand performs valiantly!x

16 The Lord’s right hand is raised.

The Lord’s right hand performs valiantly!”y

17 I will not die, but I will live

and proclaim what the Lord has done.z

18 The Lord disciplined me severely

but did not give me over to death.aa

19 Open the gates of righteousness for me;

I will enter through them

and give thanks to the Lord.ab

20 This is the Lord’s gate;

the righteous will enter through it.ac

21 I will give thanks to you

because you have answered me

and have become my salvation.ad

22 The stone that the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone.ae

23 This came from the Lord;

it is wondrous in our sight.af

24 This is the day the Lord has made;

let’s rejoice and be glad in it.ag

25 Lord, save us!

Lord, please grant us success!ah

26 He who comes in the name

of the Lord is blessed.ai

From the house of the Lord we bless you.aj

27 The Lord is God and has given us light.

Bind the festival sacrifice with cords

to the horns of the altar.ak

28 You are my God, and I will give you thanks.

You are my God; I will exalt you.al

29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;

his faithful love endures forever.a

About Christian Standard Bible

The Christian Standard Bible (CSB) is a highly trustworthy, faithful translation that is proven to be the optimal blend of accuracy and readability. It’s as literal to the original as possible without sacrificing clarity. The CSB is poised to become the translation that pastors rely on and Bible readers turn to again and again to read and to share with others.

The CSB is an original translation: more than 100 scholars from 17 denominations translated directly from the best available Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic source texts into English. Its source texts are the standard used by scholars and seminaries today.

The CSB is trustworthy: the conservative, evangelical scholars of the CSB affirm the authority of Scripture as the inerrant Word of God and seek the highest level of faithfulness to the original and accuracy in their translation. These scholars and LifeWay, the non-profit ministry that stewards the CSB, also champion the Bible against cultural trends that would compromise its truths.

The CSB is clear: it is as literal a translation of the ancient source texts as possible, but, in the many places throughout Scripture where a word-for-word rendering might obscure the meaning for a modern audience, it uses a more dynamic translation. In all cases, the intent is to convey the original meaning of God’s Word as faithfully and as clearly as possible.
