Anxiety can produce irritability and defensiveness. It is a soil in which discord could grow. Indeed matters that might otherwise be of lesser moment can reach swollen proportions when fed by anxiety. The verb here rendered “be anxious” (μεριμνάω, merimnaō) is translated “take interest” in 2:20.
