Psalm 104:1–9

Let all that I am praise the Lord.

O Lord my God, how great you are!

You are robed with honor and majesty.

You are dressed in a robe of light.

You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens;

you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds.

You make the clouds your chariot;

you ride upon the wings of the wind.

The winds are your messengers;

flames of fire are your servants.*

You placed the world on its foundation

so it would never be moved.

You clothed the earth with floods of water,

water that covered even the mountains.

At your command, the water fled;

at the sound of your thunder, it hurried away.

Mountains rose and valleys sank

to the levels you decreed.

Then you set a firm boundary for the seas,

so they would never again cover the earth.

Psalm 104:1–9 — The New International Version (NIV)

Praise the Lord, my soul.

Lord my God, you are very great;

you are clothed with splendor and majesty.

The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment;

he stretches out the heavens like a tent

and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.

He makes the clouds his chariot

and rides on the wings of the wind.

He makes winds his messengers,

flames of fire his servants.

He set the earth on its foundations;

it can never be moved.

You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment;

the waters stood above the mountains.

But at your rebuke the waters fled,

at the sound of your thunder they took to flight;

they flowed over the mountains,

they went down into the valleys,

to the place you assigned for them.

You set a boundary they cannot cross;

never again will they cover the earth.

Psalm 104:1–9 — English Standard Version (ESV)

Bless the Lord, O my soul!

O Lord my God, you are very great!

You are clothed with splendor and majesty,

covering yourself with light as with a garment,

stretching out the heavens like a tent.

He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters;

he makes the clouds his chariot;

he rides on the wings of the wind;

he makes his messengers winds,

his ministers a flaming fire.

He set the earth on its foundations,

so that it should never be moved.

You covered it with the deep as with a garment;

the waters stood above the mountains.

At your rebuke they fled;

at the sound of your thunder they took to flight.

The mountains rose, the valleys sank down

to the place that you appointed for them.

You set a boundary that they may not pass,

so that they might not again cover the earth.

Psalm 104:1–9 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Bless the Lord, O my soul.

O Lord my God, thou art very great;

Thou art clothed with honour and majesty.

Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment:

Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:

Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters:

Who maketh the clouds his chariot:

Who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

Who maketh his angels spirits;

His ministers a flaming fire:

Who laid the foundations of the earth,

That it should not be removed for ever.

Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment:

The waters stood above the mountains.

At thy rebuke they fled;

At the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.

They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys

Unto the place which thou hast founded for them.

Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over;

That they turn not again to cover the earth.

Psalm 104:1–9 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Bless the Lord, O my soul!

O Lord my God, You are very great:

You are clothed with honor and majesty,

Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,

Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.

He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters,

Who makes the clouds His chariot,

Who walks on the wings of the wind,

Who makes His angels spirits,

His ministers a flame of fire.

You who laid the foundations of the earth,

So that it should not be moved forever,

You covered it with the deep as with a garment;

The waters stood above the mountains.

At Your rebuke they fled;

At the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.

They went up over the mountains;

They went down into the valleys,

To the place which You founded for them.

You have set a boundary that they may not pass over,

That they may not return to cover the earth.

Psalm 104:1–9 — New Century Version (NCV)

My whole being, praise the Lord.

Lord my God, you are very great.

You are clothed with glory and majesty;

you wear light like a robe.

You stretch out the skies like a tent.

You build your room above the clouds.

You make the clouds your chariot,

and you ride on the wings of the wind.

You make the winds your messengers,

and flames of fire are your servants.

You built the earth on its foundations

so it can never be moved.

You covered the earth with oceans;

the water was above the mountains.

But at your command, the water rushed away.

When you thundered your orders, it hurried away.

The mountains rose; the valleys sank.

The water went to the places you made for it.

You set borders for the seas that they cannot cross,

so water will never cover the earth again.

Psalm 104:1–9 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Bless Jehovah, O my soul.

O Jehovah my God, thou art very great;

Thou art clothed with honor and majesty:

Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment;

Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain;

Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters;

Who maketh the clouds his chariot;

Who walketh upon the wings of the wind;

Who maketh winds his messengers;

Flames of fire his ministers;

Who laid the foundations of the earth,

That it should not be moved for ever.

Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a vesture;

The waters stood above the mountains.

At thy rebuke they fled;

At the voice of thy thunder they hasted away

(The mountains rose, the valleys sank down)

Unto the place which thou hadst founded for them.

Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over;

That they turn not again to cover the earth.

Psalm 104:1–9 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Bless Jehovah, O my soul! Jehovah my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with majesty and splendour; Covering thyself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent-curtain; — Who layeth the beams of his upper chambers in the waters, who maketh clouds his chariot, who walketh upon the wings of the wind; Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flame of fire. He laid the earth upon its foundations: it shall not be removed for ever. Thou hadst covered it with the deep, as with a vesture; the waters stood above the mountains: At thy rebuke they fled, at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away; — The mountains rose, the valleys sank, unto the place which thou hadst founded for them; — Thou hast set a bound which they may not pass over, that they turn not again to cover the earth.

Psalm 104:1–9 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Praise the Lord, my soul!

O Lord my God, you are very great.

You are clothed with splendor and majesty.

You cover yourself with light as though it were a robe.

You stretch out the heavens as though they were curtains.

You lay the beams of your home in the water.

You use the clouds for your chariot.

You move on the wings of the wind.

You make your angels winds

and your servants flames of fire.

You set the earth on its foundations

so that it can never be shaken.

You covered the earth with an ocean as though it were a robe.

Water stood above the mountains

and fled because of your threat.

Water ran away at the sound of your thunder.

The mountains rose and the valleys sank

to the place you appointed for them.

Water cannot cross the boundary you set

and cannot come back to cover the earth.

Psalm 104:1–9 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

My soul, praise Yahweh!

Lord my God, You are very great;

You are clothed with majesty and splendor.

He wraps Himself in light as if it were a robe,

spreading out the sky like a canopy,

laying the beams of His palace

on the waters above,

making the clouds His chariot,

walking on the wings of the wind,

and making the winds His messengers,

flames of fire His servants.

He established the earth on its foundations;

it will never be shaken.

You covered it with the deep

as if it were a garment;

the waters stood above the mountains.

At Your rebuke the waters fled;

at the sound of Your thunder they hurried away —

mountains rose and valleys sank —

to the place You established for them.

You set a boundary they cannot cross;

they will never cover the earth again.

Psalm 104:1–9 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Bless the Lord, O my soul.

O Lord my God, you are very great.

You are clothed with honor and majesty,

wrapped in light as with a garment.

You stretch out the heavens like a tent,

you set the beams of your chambers on the waters,

you make the clouds your chariot,

you ride on the wings of the wind,

you make the winds your messengers,

fire and flame your ministers.

You set the earth on its foundations,

so that it shall never be shaken.

You cover it with the deep as with a garment;

the waters stood above the mountains.

At your rebuke they flee;

at the sound of your thunder they take to flight.

They rose up to the mountains, ran down to the valleys

to the place that you appointed for them.

You set a boundary that they may not pass,

so that they might not again cover the earth.

Psalm 104:1–9 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Bless Yahweh, O my soul.

O Yahweh my God, you are very great.

You clothe yourself with splendor and majesty,

you who cover yourself with light as with a garment,

who stretch out the heavens like a tent curtain,

the one who sets beams in the waters for his upper chambers,

who makes clouds his chariot,

who rides on the wings of the wind,

who makes his messengers the winds,

his attendants a flame of fire.

He established the earth on her foundations,

so that it will not be moved forever and ever.

You covered it with the deep as with a garment.

The waters stood above the mountains.

At your rebuke they fled;

at the sound of your thunder they ran off.

They ascended the mountains and drained through the valleys

to the place that you established for them.

You set a boundary that they may not cross over,

so that they would not return to cover the earth.

Psalm 104:1–9 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

I will praise the Lord.

Lord my God, you are very great.

You are dressed in glory and majesty.

You wrap yourself in light as if it were a robe.

You spread the heavens out like a tent.

You build your palace high in the heavens.

You make the clouds serve as your chariot.

You ride on the wings of the wind.

You make the winds serve as your messengers.

You make flashes of lightning serve you.

You placed the earth on its foundations.

It can never be moved.

You covered it with the oceans like a blanket.

The waters covered the mountains.

But you commanded the waters, and they ran away.

At the sound of your thunder they rushed off.

They flowed down the mountains.

They went into the valleys.

They went to the place you appointed for them.

You drew a line they can’t cross.

They will never cover the earth again.

Psalm 104:1–9 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Bless the Lord, O my soul!

O Lord my God, You are very great;

You are clothed with splendor and majesty,

Covering Yourself with light as with a cloak,

Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain.

He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters;

He makes the clouds His chariot;

He walks upon the wings of the wind;

He makes the winds His messengers,

Flaming fire His ministers.

He established the earth upon its foundations,

So that it will not totter forever and ever.

You covered it with the deep as with a garment;

The waters were standing above the mountains.

At Your rebuke they fled,

At the sound of Your thunder they hurried away.

The mountains rose; the valleys sank down

To the place which You established for them.

You set a boundary that they may not pass over,

So that they will not return to cover the earth.
