Hosea 4:6–9 — The New International Version (NIV)

my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.

“Because you have rejected knowledge,

I also reject you as my priests;

because you have ignored the law of your God,

I also will ignore your children.

The more priests there were,

the more they sinned against me;

they exchanged their glorious God for something disgraceful.

They feed on the sins of my people

and relish their wickedness.

And it will be: Like people, like priests.

I will punish both of them for their ways

and repay them for their deeds.

Hosea 4:6–9 — English Standard Version (ESV)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;

because you have rejected knowledge,

I reject you from being a priest to me.

And since you have forgotten the law of your God,

I also will forget your children.

The more they increased,

the more they sinned against me;

I will change their glory into shame.

They feed on the sin of my people;

they are greedy for their iniquity.

And it shall be like people, like priest;

I will punish them for their ways

and repay them for their deeds.

Hosea 4:6–9 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:

Because thou hast rejected knowledge,

I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me:

Seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God,

I will also forget thy children.

As they were increased, so they sinned against me:

Therefore will I change their glory into shame.

They eat up the sin of my people,

And they set their heart on their iniquity.

And there shall be, like people, like priest:

And I will punish them for their ways,

And reward them their doings.

Hosea 4:6–9 — New Living Translation (NLT)

My people are being destroyed

because they don’t know me.

Since you priests refuse to know me,

I refuse to recognize you as my priests.

Since you have forgotten the laws of your God,

I will forget to bless your children.

The more priests there are,

the more they sin against me.

They have exchanged the glory of God

for the shame of idols.

“When the people bring their sin offerings, the priests get fed.

So the priests are glad when the people sin!

‘And what the priests do, the people also do.’

So now I will punish both priests and people

for their wicked deeds.

Hosea 4:6–9 — New Century Version (NCV)

My people will be destroyed,

because they have no knowledge.

You have refused to learn,

so I will refuse to let you be priests to me.

You have forgotten the teachings of your God,

so I will forget your children.

The more priests there are,

the more they sin against me.

I will take away their honor

and give them shame.

Since the priests live off the sin offerings of the people,

they want the people to sin more and more.

The priests are as wrong as the people,

and I will punish them both for what they have done.

I will repay them for the wrong they have done.

Hosea 4:6–9 — American Standard Version (ASV)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children. As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame. They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity. And it shall be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will requite them their doings.

Hosea 4:6–9 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; for thou hast rejected knowledge, and I will reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me; seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children. As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame. They eat the sin of my people, and their soul longeth for their iniquity. And it shall be as the people so the priest; and I will visit their ways upon them, and recompense to them their doings;

Hosea 4:6–9 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

I will destroy my people because they are ignorant.

You have refused to learn,

so I will refuse to let you be my priests.

You have forgotten the teachings of your God,

so I will forget your children.

The more priests there are,

the more they sin against me.

So I will turn their glory into shame.

They feed on the sins of my people,

and they want them to do wicked things.

So the priests will be punished like the people.

I will punish them for their wicked ways

and pay them back for what they have done.

Hosea 4:6–9 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

Because you have rejected knowledge,

I will reject you from serving as My priest.

Since you have forgotten the law of your God,

I will also forget your sons.

The more they multiplied,

the more they sinned against Me.

I will change their honor into disgrace.

They feed on the sin of My people;

they have an appetite for their transgressions.

The same judgment will happen

to both people and priests.

I will punish them for their ways

and repay them for their deeds.

Hosea 4:6–9 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;

because you have rejected knowledge,

I reject you from being a priest to me.

And since you have forgotten the law of your God,

I also will forget your children.

The more they increased,

the more they sinned against me;

because you have rejected knowledge,

I reject you from acting as a priest for me.

And since you have forgotten the law of your God,

I will also forget your children.

When they became many, their sin increased against me;

they changed their glory into shame.

they are greedy for their iniquity.

And it will be like people, like priest;

I will punish them for their ways,

and I will requite them for their deeds.

Hosea 4:6–9 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

because they do not know me.

“You priests have refused to obey me.

So I will refuse to accept you as my priests.

You have not paid any attention to my law.

So I will not let your children be my priests.

The more priests there are,

the more they sin against me.

They have traded their glorious God for that shameful god Baal.

They live off the sins of my people.

And they want them to keep on sinning.

So here is what I will do.

I will punish people and priests alike.

I will judge them because of their sinful lives.

I will pay them back

for the evil things they have done.

Hosea 4:6–9 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

Because you have rejected knowledge,

I also will reject you from being My priest.

Since you have forgotten the law of your God,

I also will forget your children.

The more they multiplied, the more they sinned against Me;

I will change their glory into shame.

They feed on the sin of My people

And direct their desire toward their iniquity.

And it will be, like people, like priest;

So I will punish them for their ways

And repay them for their deeds.
