1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — The New International Version (NIV)

We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority. Instead, we were like young children among you.

Just as a nursing mother cares for her children,

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — English Standard Version (ESV)

Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children.

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — New Living Translation (NLT)

As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.

As apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but instead we were like children among you. Or we were like a mother feeding and caring for her own children.

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — New Century Version (NCV)

We were not looking for human praise, from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have used our authority over you.

But we were very gentle with you, like a mother caring for her little children.

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — American Standard Version (ASV)

nor seeking glory of men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle in the midst of you, as when a nurse cherisheth her own children:

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

nor seeking glory from men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have been a charge as Christ’s apostles;

but have been gentle in the midst of you, as a nurse would cherish her own children.

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

We didn’t seek praise from people, from you or from anyone else, although as apostles of Christ we had the right to do this.

Instead, we were gentle when we were with you, like a mother taking care of her children.

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

and we didn’t seek glory from people, either from you or from others. Although we could have been a burden as Christ’s apostles, instead we were gentle among you, as a nursing mother nurtures her own children.

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

nor did we seek praise from mortals, whether from you or from others, though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ. But we were gentle among you, like a nurse tenderly caring for her own children.

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

nor seeking glory from people, neither from you nor from others. Although we could have insisted on our own importance as apostles of Christ, yet we became infants in your midst, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

We were not expecting people to praise us. We were not looking for praise from you or anyone else.

As Christ’s apostles, we could have caused you some expense. But we were gentle among you. We were like a mother caring for her little children.

1 Thessalonians 2:6–7 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as apostles of Christ we might have asserted our authority.

But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children.
