Psalm 27

Psalm 27

Of David.

The Lord is my lights and my salvationt

whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the strongholdu of my life—

of whom shall I be afraid?v

When the wicked advance against me

to devoura me,

it is my enemies and my foes

who will stumble and fall.w

Though an army besiege me,

my heart will not fear;x

though war break out against me,

even then I will be confident.y

One thingz I ask from the Lord,

this only do I seek:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord

all the days of my life,a

to gaze on the beauty of the Lord

and to seek him in his temple.

For in the day of troubleb

he will keep me safec in his dwelling;

he will hide med in the shelter of his sacred tent

and set me high upon a rock.e

Then my head will be exaltedf

above the enemies who surround me;g

at his sacred tent I will sacrificeh with shouts of joy;i

I will singj and make musick to the Lord.

Hear my voicel when I call, Lord;

be merciful to me and answer me.m

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!n

Your face, Lord, I will seek.

Do not hide your faceo from me,

do not turn your servant away in anger;p

you have been my helper.q

Do not reject me or forsaker me,

God my Savior.s

10 Though my father and mother forsake me,

the Lord will receive me.

11 Teach me your way,t Lord;

lead me in a straight pathu

because of my oppressors.v

12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,

for false witnessesw rise up against me,

spouting malicious accusations.

13 I remain confident of this:

I will see the goodness of the Lordx

in the land of the living.y

14 Waitz for the Lord;

be stronga and take heart

and wait for the Lord.

All have turned away,h all have become corrupt;i

there is no one who does good,j

not even one.k

Do all these evildoers know nothing?l

They devour my peoplem as though eating bread;

they never call on the Lord.n

But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,

for God is present in the company of the righteous.

You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor,

but the Lord is their refuge.o

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!p

When the Lord restoresq his people,

let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

who does not accept a bribea against the innocent.

Whoever does these things

apart from you I have no good thing.”f

I say of the holy peopleg who are in the land,h

“They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”

Those who run after other godsi will sufferj more and more.

I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods

Lord, you alone are my portionl and my cup;m

you make my lotn secure.

The boundary lineso have fallen for me in pleasant places;

surely I have a delightful inheritance.p

I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;q

even at nightr my heart instructs me.

Hear me,d Lord, my plea is just;

listen to my cry.e

Hearf my prayer—

it does not rise from deceitful lips.g

Let my vindicationh come from you;

may your eyes see what is right.i

Though you probe my heart,j

though you examine me at night and test me,k

you will find that I have planned no evil;l

my mouth has not transgressed.m

Though people tried to bribe me,

I have kept myself from the ways of the violent

through what your lips have commanded.

My steps have held to your paths;n

my feet have not stumbled.o

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;p

turn your ear to meq and hear my prayer.r

Show me the wonders of your great love,s

you who save by your right handt

those who take refugeu in you from their foes.

Keep mev as the apple of your eye;w

hide mex in the shadow of your …
