Job 30:9–15 — English Standard Version (ESV)

“And now I have become their song;

I am a byword to them.

10 They abhor me; they keep aloof from me;

they do not hesitate to spit at the sight of me.

11 Because God has loosed my cord and humbled me,

they have cast off restraint in my presence.

12 On my right hand the rabble rise;

they push away my feet;

they cast up against me their ways of destruction.

13 They break up my path;

they promote my calamity;

they need no one to help them.

14 As through a wide breach they come;

amid the crash they roll on.

15 Terrors are turned upon me;

my honor is pursued as by the wind,

and my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

And now am I their song,

Yea, I am their byword.

10 They abhor me, they flee far from me,

And spare not to spit in my face.

11 Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me,

They have also let loose the bridle before me.

12 Upon my right hand rise the youth;

They push away my feet,

And they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.

13 They mar my path,

They set forward my calamity,

They have no helper.

14 They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters:

In the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.

15 Terrors are turned upon me:

They pursue my soul as the wind:

And my welfare passeth away as a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — New Living Translation (NLT)

“And now they mock me with vulgar songs!

They taunt me!

10 They despise me and won’t come near me,

except to spit in my face.

11 For God has cut my bowstring.

He has humbled me,

so they have thrown off all restraint.

12 These outcasts oppose me to my face.

They send me sprawling

and lay traps in my path.

13 They block my road

and do everything they can to destroy me.

They know I have no one to help me.

14 They come at me from all directions.

They jump on me when I am down.

15 I live in terror now.

My honor has blown away in the wind,

and my prosperity has vanished like a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

“And now I am their taunting song;

Yes, I am their byword.

10 They abhor me, they keep far from me;

They do not hesitate to spit in my face.

11 Because He has loosed my bowstring and afflicted me,

They have cast off restraint before me.

12 At my right hand the rabble arises;

They push away my feet,

And they raise against me their ways of destruction.

13 They break up my path,

They promote my calamity;

They have no helper.

14 They come as broad breakers;

Under the ruinous storm they roll along.

15 Terrors are turned upon me;

They pursue my honor as the wind,

And my prosperity has passed like a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — New Century Version (NCV)

“Now they make fun of me with songs;

my name is a joke among them.

10 They hate me and stay far away from me,

but they do not mind spitting in my face.

11 God has taken away my strength and made me suffer,

so they attack me with all their anger.

12 On my right side they rise up like a mob.

They lay traps for my feet

and prepare to attack me.

13 They break up my road

and work to destroy me,

and no one helps me.

14 They come at me as if through a hole in the wall,

and they roll in among the ruins.

15 Great fears overwhelm me.

They blow my honor away as if by a great wind,

and my safety disappears like a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — American Standard Version (ASV)

And now I am become their song,

Yea, I am a byword unto them.

10 They abhor me, they stand aloof from me,

And spare not to spit in my face.

11 For he hath loosed his cord, and afflicted me;

And they have cast off the bridle before me.

12 Upon my right hand rise the rabble;

They thrust aside my feet,

And they cast up against me their ways of destruction.

13 They mar my path,

They set forward my calamity,

Even men that have no helper.

14 As through a wide breach they come:

In the midst of the ruin they roll themselves upon me.

15 Terrors are turned upon me;

They chase mine honor as the wind;

And my welfare is passed away as a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

And now I am their song, yea, I am their byword. 10 They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, yea, they spare not to spit in my face. 11 For he hath loosed my cord and afflicted me; so they cast off the bridle before me. 12 At my right hand rise the young brood; they push away my feet, and raise up against me their pernicious ways; 13 They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, without any to help them; 14 They come in as through a wide breach: amid the confusion they roll themselves onward.

15 Terrors are turned against me; they pursue mine honour as the wind; and my welfare is passed away like a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

“And now they make fun of me with songs.

I have become a joke to them.

10 Since they consider me disgusting, they keep their distance from me

and don’t hesitate to spit in my face.

11 Because God has untied my cord and has made me suffer,

they are no longer restrained in my presence.

12 They have attacked me on my right side like a mob.

They trip my feet

and then prepare ways to destroy me.

13 Yes, they remove all traces of my path in order to destroy me.

No one is there to help me against them.

14 They come through a wide hole ⸤in the wall⸥.

They crawl through the ruins.

15 Terrors are directed toward me.

They blow away my dignity like the wind.

My prosperity vanishes like a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Now I am mocked by their songs;

I have become an object of scorn to them.

10 They despise me and keep their distance from me;

they do not hesitate to spit in my face.

11 Because God has loosened my bowstring and oppressed me,

they have cast off restraint in my presence.

12 The rabble rise up at my right;

they trap my feet

and construct their siege ramp against me.

13 They tear up my path;

they contribute to my destruction,

without anyone to help them.

14 They advance as through a gaping breach;

they keep rolling in through the ruins.

15 Terrors are turned loose against me;

they chase my dignity away like the wind,

and my prosperity has passed by like a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

“And now they mock me in song;

I am a byword to them.

10 They abhor me, they keep aloof from me;

they do not hesitate to spit at the sight of me.

11 Because God has loosed my bowstring and humbled me,

they have cast off restraint in my presence.

12 On my right hand the rabble rise up;

they send me sprawling,

and build roads for my ruin.

13 They break up my path,

they promote my calamity;

no one restrains them.

14 As through a wide breach they come;

amid the crash they roll on.

15 Terrors are turned upon me;

my honor is pursued as by the wind,

and my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

“But now I am their mocking song,

and I have become a byword for them.

10 They abhor me; they keep aloof from me,

and they do not withhold spit from my face

11 because he has loosened his bowstring and humbled me,

and they have thrown off restraint in my presence.

12 On the right hand the brood rises up;

they put me to flight,

and they build up their siege ramps against me.

13 They destroy my path;

they promote my destruction;

they have no helper.

14 As through a wide breach they come;

amid a crash they rush on.

15 Terrors are turned upon me;

my honor is pursued as by the wind,

and my hope of deliverance passed by like a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

“Now their children laugh at me.

They make fun of me with their songs.

10 They hate me. They stay away from me.

They even dare to spit in my face.

11 God has made my body weak.

It’s like a tent that has fallen down.

So those children do what they want to in front of me.

12 Many people attack me on my right side.

They lay traps for my feet.

They come at me from every direction.

13 They tear up the road I walk on.

They succeed in destroying me.

They do it without any help.

14 They attack me like troops smashing through a wall.

Among the destroyed buildings they come rolling in.

15 Terrors sweep over me.

My honor is driven away as if by the wind.

My safety vanishes like a cloud.

Job 30:9–15 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

“And now I have become their taunt,

I have even become a byword to them.

10 “They abhor me and stand aloof from me,

And they do not refrain from spitting at my face.

11 Because He has loosed His bowstring and afflicted me,

They have cast off the bridle before me.

12 “On the right hand their brood arises;

They thrust aside my feet and build up against me their ways of destruction.

13 “They break up my path,

They profit from my destruction;

No one restrains them.

14 “As through a wide breach they come,

Amid the tempest they roll on.

15 Terrors are turned against me;

They pursue my honor as the wind,

And my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.
