Isaiah 17:7–9 — English Standard Version (ESV)

In that day man will look to his Maker, and his eyes will look on the Holy One of Israel. He will not look to the altars, the work of his hands, and he will not look on what his own fingers have made, either the Asherim or the altars of incense.

In that day their strong cities will be like the deserted places of the wooded heights and the hilltops, which they deserted because of the children of Israel, and there will be desolation.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

At that day shall a man look to his Maker,

And his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands,

Neither shall respect that which his fingers have made,

Either the groves, or the images.

In that day shall his strong cities be

As a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch,

Which they left because of the children of Israel:

And there shall be desolation.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Then at last the people will look to their Creator

and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.

They will no longer look to their idols for help

or worship what their own hands have made.

They will never again bow down to their Asherah poles

or worship at the pagan shrines they have built.

Their largest cities will be like a deserted forest,

like the land the Hivites and Amorites abandoned

when the Israelites came here so long ago.

It will be utterly desolate.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

In that day a man will look to his Maker,

And his eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel.

He will not look to the altars,

The work of his hands;

He will not respect what his fingers have made,

Nor the wooden images nor the incense altars.

In that day his strong cities will be as a forsaken bough

And an uppermost branch,

Which they left because of the children of Israel;

And there will be desolation.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — New Century Version (NCV)

At that time people will look to God, their Maker;

their eyes will see the Holy One of Israel.

They will not trust the altars they have made,

nor will they trust what their hands have made,

not even the Asherah idols and altars.

In that day all their strong cities will be empty. They will be like the cities the Hivites and the Amorites left when the Israelites came to take the land. Everything will be ruined.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — American Standard Version (ASV)

In that day shall men look unto their Maker, and their eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel. And they shall not look to the altars, the work of their hands; neither shall they have respect to that which their fingers have made, either the Asherim, or the sun-images. In that day shall their strong cities be as the forsaken places in the wood and on the mountain top, which were forsaken from before the children of Israel; and it shall be a desolation.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

In that day shall man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have regard to the Holy One of Israel. And he will not look to the altars, the work of his hands, nor have regard to what his fingers have made, neither the Asherahs nor the sun-images.

In that day shall his strong cities be as the forsaken tract in the woodland, and the mountain-top which they forsook before the children of Israel; and there shall be desolation.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

When that day comes, they will look to their maker,

and their eyes will look to the Holy One of Israel.

They won’t look to the altars made by their hands

or to the Asherah poles or incense altars

which their fingers molded.

When that day comes, the fortified cities

which other people abandoned because of the Israelites

will be like abandoned woods and undergrowth.

So it will become a wasteland.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

On that day people will look to their Maker and will turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel. They will not look to the altars they made with their hands or to the Asherahs and incense altars they made with their fingers.

On that day their strong cities will be

like the abandoned woods and mountaintops

that were abandoned because of the Israelites;

there will be desolation.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

On that day people will regard their Maker, and their eyes will look to the Holy One of Israel; they will not have regard for the altars, the work of their hands, and they will not look to what their own fingers have made, either the sacred poles or the altars of incense.

On that day their strong cities will be like the deserted places of the Hivites and the Amorites, which they deserted because of the children of Israel, and there will be desolation.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

On that day, mankind will look to its maker,

and its eyes will look to the holy one of Israel;

it will not look to the altars,

the work of its hands,

and it will not see what its fingers made

and the poles of Asherah worship and the incense altars.

On that day, its fortified cities will be like the abandonment of the wooded place and the summit, which they deserted because of the children of Israel; and there will be desolation.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

In days to come, men will look to their Maker for help.

They will turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.

They won’t trust in the altars

they made with their own hands.

They won’t pay any attention to the poles they used

to worship the goddess Asherah.

And they won’t depend on the incense altars

they made with their own fingers.

At that time the strong cities in Israel will be deserted. They will be as they were when the Israelites drove the Canaanites out of them. They will be like places that are taken over by bushes and weeds. The whole land will become dry and empty.

Isaiah 17:7–9 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

In that day man will have regard for his Maker

And his eyes will look to the Holy One of Israel.

He will not have regard for the altars, the work of his hands,

Nor will he look to that which his fingers have made,

Even the Asherim and incense stands.

In that day their strong cities will be like forsaken places in the forest,

Or like branches which they abandoned before the sons of Israel;

And the land will be a desolation.
