Psalm 75:1–7 — The New International Version (NIV)

We praise you, God,

we praise you, for your Name is near;

people tell of your wonderful deeds.

You say, “I choose the appointed time;

it is I who judge with equity.

When the earth and all its people quake,

it is I who hold its pillars firm.

To the arrogant I say, ‘Boast no more,’

and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horns.

Do not lift your horns against heaven;

do not speak so defiantly.’ ”

No one from the east or the west

or from the desert can exalt themselves.

It is God who judges:

He brings one down, he exalts another.

Psalm 75:1–7 — English Standard Version (ESV)

We give thanks to you, O God;

we give thanks, for your name is near.

We recount your wondrous deeds.

“At the set time that I appoint

I will judge with equity.

When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants,

it is I who keep steady its pillars. Selah

I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’

and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn;

do not lift up your horn on high,

or speak with haughty neck.’ ”

For not from the east or from the west

and not from the wilderness comes lifting up,

but it is God who executes judgment,

putting down one and lifting up another.

Psalm 75:1–7 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks:

For that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.

When I shall receive the congregation

I will judge uprightly.

The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved:

I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.

I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly:

And to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:

Lift not up your horn on high:

Speak not with a stiff neck.

For promotion cometh neither from the east,

Nor from the west, nor from the south.

But God is the judge:

He putteth down one, and setteth up another.

Psalm 75:1–7 — New Living Translation (NLT)

We thank you, O God!

We give thanks because you are near.

People everywhere tell of your wonderful deeds.

God says, “At the time I have planned,

I will bring justice against the wicked.

When the earth quakes and its people live in turmoil,

I am the one who keeps its foundations firm.

Interlude

“I warned the proud, ‘Stop your boasting!’

I told the wicked, ‘Don’t raise your fists!

Don’t raise your fists in defiance at the heavens

or speak with such arrogance.’ ”

For no one on earth—from east or west,

or even from the wilderness—

should raise a defiant fist.

It is God alone who judges;

he decides who will rise and who will fall.

Psalm 75:1–7 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks!

For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.

“When I choose the proper time,

I will judge uprightly.

The earth and all its inhabitants are dissolved;

I set up its pillars firmly.

Selah

“I said to the boastful, ‘Do not deal boastfully,’

And to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up the horn.

Do not lift up your horn on high;

Do not speak with a stiff neck.’ ”

For exaltation comes neither from the east

Nor from the west nor from the south.

But God is the Judge:

He puts down one,

And exalts another.

Psalm 75:1–7 — New Century Version (NCV)

God, we thank you;

we thank you because you are near.

We tell about the miracles you do.

You say, “I set the time for trial,

and I will judge fairly.

The earth with all its people may shake,

but I am the one who holds it steady.

Selah

I say to those who are proud, ‘Don’t brag,’

and to the wicked, ‘Don’t show your power.

Don’t try to use your power against heaven.

Don’t be stubborn.’ ”

No one from the east or the west

or the desert can judge you.

God is the judge;

he judges one person as guilty and another as innocent.

Psalm 75:1–7 — American Standard Version (ASV)

We give thanks unto thee, O God;

We give thanks, for thy name is near:

Men tell of thy wondrous works.

When I shall find the set time,

I will judge uprightly.

The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved:

I have set up the pillars of it. Selah

I said unto the arrogant, Deal not arrogantly;

And to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:

Lift not up your horn on high;

Speak not with a stiff neck.

For neither from the east, nor from the west,

Nor yet from the south, cometh lifting up.

But God is the judge:

He putteth down one, and lifteth up another.

Psalm 75:1–7 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Unto thee we give thanks, O God, we give thanks; and thy name is near: thy marvellous works declare it. When I shall receive the assembly, I will judge with equity. The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I have established its pillars. Selah. I said unto the boastful, Boast not; and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: Lift not up your horn on high; speak not arrogantly with a stiff neck.

For not from the east nor from the west, nor yet from the south doth exaltation come: For God is the judge; he putteth down one and exalteth another.

Psalm 75:1–7 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks.

You are present, and your miracles confirm that.

When I choose the right time,

I will judge fairly.

When the earth and everyone who lives on it begin to melt,

I will make its foundations as solid as rock.

Selah

I said to those who brag, “Don’t brag,”

and to wicked people,

“Don’t raise your weapons.

Don’t raise your weapons so proudly

or speak so defiantly.”

The ⸤authority⸥ to reward someone does not ⸤come⸥

from the east,

from the west,

or ⸤even⸥ from the wilderness.

God alone is the judge.

He punishes one person and rewards another.

Psalm 75:1–7 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

We give thanks to You, God;

we give thanks to You, for Your name is near.

People tell about Your wonderful works.

“When I choose a time,

I will judge fairly.

When the earth and all its inhabitants shake,

I am the One who steadies its pillars. Selah

I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’

and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn.

Do not lift up your horn against heaven

or speak arrogantly.’ ”

Exaltation does not come

from the east, the west, or the desert,

for God is the Judge:

He brings down one and exalts another.

Psalm 75:1–7 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

We give thanks to you, O God;

we give thanks; your name is near.

People tell of your wondrous deeds.

At the set time that I appoint

I will judge with equity.

When the earth totters, with all its inhabitants,

it is I who keep its pillars steady. Selah

I say to the boastful, “Do not boast,”

and to the wicked, “Do not lift up your horn;

do not lift up your horn on high,

or speak with insolent neck.”

For not from the east or from the west

and not from the wilderness comes lifting up;

but it is God who executes judgment,

putting down one and lifting up another.

Psalm 75:1–7 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

We give thanks to you, O God;

we give thanks, and your name is near.

Your wonderful deeds are told.

“I will indeed set an appointed time;

I will judge fairly.

The earth and all its inhabitants are shaking;

I steady its columns. Selah

I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast!’

and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn!

Do not lift up high your horn.

Do not speak with arrogant pride.’ ”

For it is not from the east or the west

and not from the south that lifting up comes,

rather God is the judge;

one he brings low, and another he lifts up.

Psalm 75:1–7 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

God, we give thanks to you.

We give thanks because your Name is near.

People talk about the wonderful things you have done.

You say, “I choose the appointed time to judge people.

And I judge them fairly.

When the earth and all of its people tremble,

I keep everything from falling to pieces. Selah

To the proud I say, ‘Don’t brag anymore.’

To sinners I say, ‘Don’t show off your power.

Don’t show it off against me.

Don’t speak with your noses in the air.’ ”

No one from east or west or north or south

can act as judge.

God is the One who judges.

He says to one person, “You are guilty.”

To another he says, “You are not guilty.”
