Proverbs 4:14–19 — The New International Version (NIV)

14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked

or walk in the way of evildoers.

15 Avoid it, do not travel on it;

turn from it and go on your way.

16 For they cannot rest until they do evil;

they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.

17 They eat the bread of wickedness

and drink the wine of violence.

18 The path of the righteous is like the morning sun,

shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;

they do not know what makes them stumble.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — English Standard Version (ESV)

14 Do not enter the path of the wicked,

and do not walk in the way of the evil.

15 Avoid it; do not go on it;

turn away from it and pass on.

16 For they cannot sleep unless they have done wrong;

they are robbed of sleep unless they have made someone stumble.

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness

and drink the wine of violence.

18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,

which shines brighter and brighter until full day.

19 The way of the wicked is like deep darkness;

they do not know over what they stumble.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

14 Enter not into the path of the wicked,

And go not in the way of evil men.

15 Avoid it, pass not by it,

Turn from it, and pass away.

16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief;

And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness,

And drink the wine of violence.

18 But the path of the just is as the shining light,

That shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

19 The way of the wicked is as darkness:

They know not at what they stumble.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — New Living Translation (NLT)

14 Don’t do as the wicked do,

and don’t follow the path of evildoers.

15 Don’t even think about it; don’t go that way.

Turn away and keep moving.

16 For evil people can’t sleep until they’ve done their evil deed for the day.

They can’t rest until they’ve caused someone to stumble.

17 They eat the food of wickedness

and drink the wine of violence!

18 The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn,

which shines ever brighter until the full light of day.

19 But the way of the wicked is like total darkness.

They have no idea what they are stumbling over.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

14 Do not enter the path of the wicked,

And do not walk in the way of evil.

15 Avoid it, do not travel on it;

Turn away from it and pass on.

16 For they do not sleep unless they have done evil;

And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall.

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness,

And drink the wine of violence.

18 But the path of the just is like the shining sun,

That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.

19 The way of the wicked is like darkness;

They do not know what makes them stumble.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — New Century Version (NCV)

14 Don’t follow the ways of the wicked;

don’t do what evil people do.

15 Avoid their ways, and don’t follow them.

Stay away from them and keep on going,

16 because they cannot sleep until they do evil.

They cannot rest until they harm someone.

17 They feast on wickedness and cruelty

as if they were eating bread and drinking wine.

18 The way of the good person is like the light of dawn,

growing brighter and brighter until full daylight.

19 But the wicked walk around in the dark;

they can’t even see what makes them stumble.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — American Standard Version (ASV)

14 Enter not into the path of the wicked,

And walk not in the way of evil men.

15 Avoid it, pass not by it;

Turn from it, and pass on.

16 For they sleep not, except they do evil;

And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness,

And drink the wine of violence.

18 But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light,

That shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

19 The way of the wicked is as darkness:

They know not at what they stumble.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men: 15 avoid it, pass not by it; turn from it, and pass away. 16 For they sleep not except they have done mischief, and their sleep is taken away unless they have caused some to fall. 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. 18 But the path of the righteous is as the shining light, going on and brightening until the day be fully come. 19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

14 Do not stray onto the path of wicked people.

Do not walk in the way of evil people.

15 Avoid it.

Do not walk near it.

Turn away from it,

and keep on walking.

16 Wicked people cannot sleep

unless they do wrong,

and they are robbed of their sleep

unless they make someone stumble.

17 They eat food obtained through wrongdoing

and drink wine obtained through violence.

18 But the path of righteous people is like the light of dawn

that becomes brighter and brighter until it reaches midday.

19 The way of wicked people is like deep darkness.

They do not know what makes them stumble.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

14 Don’t set foot on the path of the wicked;

don’t proceed in the way of evil ones.

15 Avoid it; don’t travel on it.

Turn away from it, and pass it by.

16 For they can’t sleep

unless they have done what is evil;

they are robbed of sleep

unless they make someone stumble.

17 They eat the bread of wickedness

and drink the wine of violence.

18 The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,

shining brighter and brighter until midday.

19 But the way of the wicked is like the darkest gloom;

they don’t know what makes them stumble.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

14 Do not enter the path of the wicked,

and do not walk in the way of evildoers.

15 Avoid it; do not go on it;

turn away from it and pass on.

16 For they cannot sleep unless they have done wrong;

they are robbed of sleep unless they have made someone stumble.

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness

and drink the wine of violence.

18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,

which shines brighter and brighter until full day.

19 The way of the wicked is like deep darkness;

they do not know what they stumble over.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

14 In the path of the wicked do not go;

do not walk in the way of those who do evil.

15 Avoid it; do not transgress it;

turn away from it and pass by.

16 For they will not sleep if they have not done wrong,

and they are robbed of their sleep if they do not cause stumbling.

17 For they ate the bread of wickedness,

and they drank the wine of violence.

18 But the path of the righteous ones is like the light of dawn,

leading and shining until the day is full.

19 The way of the wicked ones is like deep darkness;

they do not know what they stumble over.

Proverbs 4:14–19 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

14 Don’t take the path of evil people.

Don’t live the way sinners do.

15 Stay away from their path. Don’t travel on it.

Turn away from it. Go on your way.

16 Sinners can’t sleep until they do what is evil.

They can’t rest until they make someone fall.

17 They do evil just as easily as they eat food.

They hurt others as easily as they drink wine.

18 The path of those who do what is right is like the first gleam of dawn.

It shines brighter and brighter until the full light of day.

19 But the way of those who do what is wrong is like deep darkness.

They don’t know what makes them trip and fall.
