The Future of Bible Study Is Here.
John 12:39–40
John 12:39–40 — The New International Version (NIV)
39 For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:
40 “He has blinded their eyes
and hardened their hearts,
so they can neither see with their eyes,
nor understand with their hearts,
nor turn—and I would heal them.”
John 12:39–40 — English Standard Version (ESV)
39 Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said,
40 “He has blinded their eyes
and hardened their heart,
lest they see with their eyes,
and understand with their heart, and turn,
and I would heal them.”
John 12:39–40 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, 40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
John 12:39–40 — New Living Translation (NLT)
39 But the people couldn’t believe, for as Isaiah also said,
40 “The Lord has blinded their eyes
and hardened their hearts—
so that their eyes cannot see,
and their hearts cannot understand,
and they cannot turn to me
and have me heal them.”
John 12:39–40 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
39 Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again:
40 “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts,
Lest they should see with their eyes,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them.”
John 12:39–40 — New Century Version (NCV)
39 This is why the people could not believe: Isaiah also had said,
40 “He has blinded their eyes,
and he has closed their minds.
Otherwise they would see with their eyes
and understand in their minds
and come back to me and be healed.”
John 12:39–40 — American Standard Version (ASV)
39 For this cause they could not believe, for that Isaiah said again,
40 He hath blinded their eyes, and he hardened their heart;
Lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart,
And should turn,
And I should heal them.
John 12:39–40 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
39 On this account they could not believe, because Esaias said again, 40 He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, that they may not see with their eyes, and understand with their heart and be converted, and I should heal them.
John 12:39–40 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
39 So the people couldn’t believe because, as Isaiah also said,
40 “God blinded them
and made them close-minded
so that their eyes don’t see
and their minds don’t understand.
And they never turn to me for healing!”
John 12:39–40 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
39 This is why they were unable to believe, because Isaiah also said:
40 He has blinded their eyes
and hardened their hearts,
so that they would not see with their eyes
or understand with their hearts,
and be converted,
and I would heal them.
John 12:39–40 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
39 And so they could not believe, because Isaiah also said,
40 “He has blinded their eyes
and hardened their heart,
so that they might not look with their eyes,
and understand with their heart and turn—
and I would heal them.”
John 12:39–40 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
39 For this reason they were not able to believe, because again Isaiah said,
40 “He has blinded their eyes
and hardened their hearts,
lest they see with their eyes
and understand with their hearts
and turn, and I heal them.”
John 12:39–40 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
39 For this reason, they could not believe. As Isaiah says in another place,
40 “The Lord has blinded their eyes.
He has closed their minds.
So they can’t see with their eyes.
They can’t understand with their minds.
They can’t turn to the Lord. If they could, he would heal them.”
