21 I will clothe him with your robe and fasten your sash around him and hand your authority over to him. He will be a father to those who live in Jerusalem and to the people of Judah. 22 I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 23 I will drive him like a peg into a firm place; he will become a seat of honor for the house of his father. 24 All the glory of his family will hang on him: its offspring and offshoots—all its lesser vessels, from the bowls to all the jars.

25 “In that day,” declares the Lord Almighty, “the peg driven into the firm place will give way; it will be sheared off and will fall, and the load hanging on it will be cut down.” The Lord has spoken.

21 and I will clothe him with your robe, and will bind your sash on him, and will commit your authority to his hand. And he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. 22 And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. 23 And I will fasten him like a peg in a secure place, and he will become a throne of honor to his father’s house. 24 And they will hang on him the whole honor of his father’s house, the offspring and issue, every small vessel, from the cups to all the flagons. 25 In that day, declares the Lord of hosts, the peg that was fastened in a secure place will give way, and it will be cut down and fall, and the load that was on it will be cut off, for the Lord has spoken.”

21 And I will clothe him with thy robe,

And strengthen him with thy girdle,

And I will commit thy government into his hand:

And he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem,

And to the house of Judah.

22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder;

So he shall open, and none shall shut;

And he shall shut, and none shall open.

23 And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place;

And he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house.

24 And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house,

The offspring and the issue,

All vessels of small quantity,

From the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.

25 In that day, saith the Lord of hosts,

Shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed,

And be cut down, and fall;

And the burden that was upon it shall be cut off:

For the Lord hath spoken it.

21 I will dress him in your royal robes and will give him your title and your authority. And he will be a father to the people of Jerusalem and Judah. 22 I will give him the key to the house of David—the highest position in the royal court. When he opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them. 23 He will bring honor to his family name, for I will drive him firmly in place like a nail in the wall. 24 They will give him great responsibility, and he will bring honor to even the lowliest members of his family.”

25 But the Lord of Heaven’s Armies also says: “The time will come when I will pull out the nail that seemed so firm. It will come out and fall to the ground. Everything it supports will fall with it. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

21 I will clothe him with your robe

And strengthen him with your belt;

I will commit your responsibility into his hand.

He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem

And to the house of Judah.

22 The key of the house of David

I will lay on his shoulder;

So he shall open, and no one shall shut;

And he shall shut, and no one shall open.

23 I will fasten him as a peg in a secure place,

And he will become a glorious throne to his father’s house.

24 ‘They will hang on him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the posterity, all vessels of small quantity, from the cups to all the pitchers. 25 In that day,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘the peg that is fastened in the secure place will be removed and be cut down and fall, and the burden that was on it will be cut off; for the Lord has spoken.’ ”

21 I will take your robe and put it on him and give him your belt. I will hand over to him the important job you have, and he will be like a father to the people of Jerusalem and the family of Judah. 22 I will put the key to the house of David around his neck. If he opens a door, no one will be able to close it; if he closes a door, no one will be able to open it. 23 He will be like an honored chair in his father’s house. I will make him strong like a peg that is hammered into a strong board. 24 All the honored and important things of his family will depend on him; all the adults and little children will depend on him. They will be like bowls and jars hanging on him.

25 “At that time,” says the Lord All-Powerful, “the peg hammered into the strong board will weaken. It will break and fall, and everything hanging on it will be destroyed.” The Lord says this.

and fasten it with your belt. 

I will give him your authority, 

and he will be like a father to those who live in Jerusalem 

and to the nation of Judah. 

22 I will place the key of the house of David around his neck. 

What he opens no one will shut. 

What he shuts no one will open. 

23 I will fasten him firmly in place like a peg, 

and he will be a source of honor for his father’s household. 

24 They will hang on him the whole weight of his father’s household, 

descendants and offspring and all the little utensils, 

from bowls to jars of every kind.” 

25 The Lord of Armies declares, 

“On that day the peg which I firmly fastened in place will be removed. 

It will be cut off and will fall, 

and everything hanging on it will be destroyed.” 

The Lord has spoken.

and I will bind your sash firmly about him,

and I will put your authority into his hand,

and he shall be like a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem

and to the house of Judah.

22 And I will put the key of the house of David on his shoulder,

and he shall open and no one will be able to shut;

and he shall shut and no one will be able to open.

23 And I will drive him in like a peg into a secure place,

and he will become like a throne of glory to the house of his father.

24 And they will hang all of the heaviness of his father’s house on him,

the offspring and the offshoot,

all of the small vessels,

from the bowls to the jars.

25 On that day, declares Yahweh of hosts, the peg that was driven will move away into a secure place, and it will be cut down and fall, and the load that was on her will be cut off. For Yahweh has spoken.’ ”

21 The Lord will put your robe on Eliakim. He will tie your belt around him. He will hand your authority over to him. Eliakim will be like a father to the people of Jerusalem and Judah.

22 “ ‘The Lord will give Eliakim the key of authority in David’s royal house. No one can shut what he opens. And no one can open what he shuts. 23 The Lord will set him firmly in place like a peg that is driven into a wall. He will hold a position of honor in his family. 24 The good name of his whole family will depend on him. They will be like bowls and jars hanging on a peg.

25 “ ‘But a new day is coming,’ ” announces the Lord who rules over all. “ ‘At that time the peg that was driven into the wall will give way. It will break off and fall down. And the heavy load hanging on it will also fall.’ ” The Lord has spoken.
