Amos 7:1–3 — The New International Version (NIV)

This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up. When they had stripped the land clean, I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!”

So the Lord relented.

“This will not happen,” the Lord said.

Amos 7:1–3 — English Standard Version (ESV)

This is what the Lord God showed me: behold, he was forming locusts when the latter growth was just beginning to sprout, and behold, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings. When they had finished eating the grass of the land, I said,

“O Lord God, please forgive!

How can Jacob stand?

He is so small!”

The Lord relented concerning this:

“It shall not be,” said the Lord.

Amos 7:1–3 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings. And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said,

O Lord God, forgive, I beseech thee:

By whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

The Lord repented for this:

It shall not be, saith the Lord.

Amos 7:1–3 — New Living Translation (NLT)

The Sovereign Lord showed me a vision. I saw him preparing to send a vast swarm of locusts over the land. This was after the king’s share had been harvested from the fields and as the main crop was coming up. In my vision the locusts ate every green plant in sight. Then I said, “O Sovereign Lord, please forgive us or we will not survive, for Israel is so small.”

So the Lord relented from this plan. “I will not do it,” he said.

Amos 7:1–3 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, He formed locust swarms at the beginning of the late crop; indeed it was the late crop after the king’s mowings. And so it was, when they had finished eating the grass of the land, that I said:

“O Lord God, forgive, I pray!

Oh, that Jacob may stand,

For he is small!”

So the Lord relented concerning this.

“It shall not be,” said the Lord.

Amos 7:1–3 — New Century Version (NCV)

This is what the Lord God showed me: He was forming a swarm of locusts, after the king had taken his share of the first crop and the second crop had just begun growing. When the locusts ate all the crops in the country, I said, “Lord God, forgive us. How could Israel live through this? It is too small already!”

So the Lord changed his mind about this. “It will not happen,” said the Lord.

Amos 7:1–3 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Thus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings. And it came to pass that, when they made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord Jehovah, forgive, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small. Jehovah repented concerning this: It shall not be, saith Jehovah.

Amos 7:1–3 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Thus did the Lord Jehovah shew unto me; and behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth, and behold, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings. And it came to pass, when they had wholly eaten the grass of the land, that I said, O Lord Jehovah, forgive, I beseech thee! How shall Jacob arise? for he is small. Jehovah repented for this: It shall not be, said Jehovah.

Amos 7:1–3 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

This is what the Almighty Lord showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts when the second crop was being harvested. It was the harvest that followed the harvest for the king. When the locusts had finished eating every plant in the land, I said, “Almighty Lord, please forgive us! How can ⸤the descendants of⸥ Jacob survive? There are so few of them.”

The Lord changed his plans about this. “This won’t happen,” the Lord said.

Amos 7:1–3 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

The Lord God showed me this: He was forming a swarm of locusts at the time the spring crop first began to sprout—after the cutting of the king’s hay. When the locusts finished eating the vegetation of the land, I said, “Lord God, please forgive! How will Jacob survive since he is so small?”

The Lord relented concerning this. “It will not happen,” He said.

Amos 7:1–3 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

This is what the Lord God showed me: he was forming locusts at the time the latter growth began to sprout (it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings). When they had finished eating the grass of the land, I said,

“O Lord God, forgive, I beg you!

How can Jacob stand?

He is so small!”

The Lord relented concerning this;

“It shall not be,” said the Lord.

Amos 7:1–3 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

This is what my Lord Yahweh showed me, and look, he is going to form locusts at the beginning of the sprouting of the second crop, and look, after the mowings of the king. And then when they finished eating the vegetation of the land, I said, “O Lord Yahweh, please forgive! How can Jacob stand, because he is small?” Yahweh relented concerning this. “It will not be,” said Yahweh.

Amos 7:1–3 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

The Lord and King gave me a vision. He was bringing large numbers of locusts on the land. The king’s share of the first crop had already been harvested. Now the second crop was coming up. The locusts stripped the land clean. Then I cried out, “Lord and King, forgive Israel! How can Jacob’s people continue? They are such a weak nation!”

So the Lord had pity on them.

“I will let them continue for now,” he said.
