Zechariah 9:4–7 — The New International Version (NIV)

But the Lord will take away her possessions

and destroy her power on the sea,

and she will be consumed by fire.

Ashkelon will see it and fear;

Gaza will writhe in agony,

and Ekron too, for her hope will wither.

Gaza will lose her king

and Ashkelon will be deserted.

A mongrel people will occupy Ashdod,

and I will put an end to the pride of the Philistines.

I will take the blood from their mouths,

the forbidden food from between their teeth.

Those who are left will belong to our God

and become a clan in Judah,

and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — English Standard Version (ESV)

But behold, the Lord will strip her of her possessions

and strike down her power on the sea,

and she shall be devoured by fire.

Ashkelon shall see it, and be afraid;

Gaza too, and shall writhe in anguish;

Ekron also, because its hopes are confounded.

The king shall perish from Gaza;

Ashkelon shall be uninhabited;

a mixed people shall dwell in Ashdod,

and I will cut off the pride of Philistia.

I will take away its blood from its mouth,

and its abominations from between its teeth;

it too shall be a remnant for our God;

it shall be like a clan in Judah,

and Ekron shall be like the Jebusites.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Behold, the Lord will cast her out,

And he will smite her power in the sea;

And she shall be devoured with fire.

Ashkelon shall see it, and fear;

Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful,

And Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed;

And the king shall perish from Gaza,

And Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod,

And I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

And I will take away his blood out of his mouth,

And his abominations from between his teeth:

But he that remaineth, even he, shall be for our God,

And he shall be as a governor in Judah,

And Ekron as a Jebusite.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — New Living Translation (NLT)

But now the Lord will strip away Tyre’s possessions

and hurl its fortifications into the sea,

and it will be burned to the ground.

The city of Ashkelon will see Tyre fall

and will be filled with fear.

Gaza will shake with terror,

as will Ekron, for their hopes will be dashed.

Gaza’s king will be killed,

and Ashkelon will be deserted.

Foreigners will occupy the city of Ashdod.

I will destroy the pride of the Philistines.

I will grab the bloody meat from their mouths

and snatch the detestable sacrifices from their teeth.

Then the surviving Philistines will worship our God

and become like a clan in Judah.

The Philistines of Ekron will join my people,

as the ancient Jebusites once did.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Behold, the Lord will cast her out;

He will destroy her power in the sea,

And she will be devoured by fire.

Ashkelon shall see it and fear;

Gaza also shall be very sorrowful;

And Ekron, for He dried up her expectation.

The king shall perish from Gaza,

And Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

“A mixed race shall settle in Ashdod,

And I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

I will take away the blood from his mouth,

And the abominations from between his teeth.

But he who remains, even he shall be for our God,

And shall be like a leader in Judah,

And Ekron like a Jebusite.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — New Century Version (NCV)

But the Lord will take away all she has

and destroy her power on the sea.

That city will be destroyed by fire.

The city of Ashkelon will see it and be afraid.

The people of Gaza will shake with fear,

and the people of Ekron will lose hope.

No king will be left in Gaza,

and no one will live in Ashkelon anymore.

Foreigners will live in Ashdod,

and I will destroy the pride of the Philistines.

I will stop them from drinking blood

and from eating forbidden food.

Those left alive will belong to God.

They will be leaders in Judah,

and Ekron will become like the Jebusites.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Behold, the Lord will dispossess her, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire. Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also, and shall be sore pained; and Ekron, for her expectation shall be put to shame; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited. And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines. And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth; and he also shall be a remnant for our God; and he shall be as a chieftain in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Behold, the Lord will take possession of her, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire. Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gazah also, and she shall be greatly pained; Ekron also, for her expectation shall be put to shame: and the king shall perish from Gazah, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited. And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines; and I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth; but he that remaineth, he also shall belong to our God, and shall be as a leader in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

The Lord will take away its possessions.

He will throw its wealth into the sea

and burn the city down.

Ashkelon will see ⸤this⸥ and be afraid.

Gaza will also be in great pain,

also Ekron, because its hope will fade.

Gaza will lose its king.

Ashkelon will no longer be lived in.

A mixed race will live in Ashdod,

and I will cut off the Philistines’ arrogance.

I will remove the blood from their mouths

and the disgusting things from between their teeth.

Then only a few of them will be left for our God

like a tribe in Judah,

and Ekron will be like a Jebusite.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Listen! The Lord will impoverish her

and cast her wealth into the sea;

she herself will be consumed by fire.

Ashkelon will see it and be afraid;

Gaza too, and will writhe in great pain,

as will Ekron, for her hope will fail.

There will cease to be a king in Gaza,

and Ashkelon will become uninhabited.

A mongrel people will live in Ashdod,

and I will destroy the pride of the Philistines.

I will remove the blood from their mouths

and the detestable things

from between their teeth.

Then they too will become a remnant for our God;

they will become like a clan in Judah

and Ekron like the Jebusites.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

But now, the Lord will strip it of its possessions

and hurl its wealth into the sea,

and it shall be devoured by fire.

Ashkelon shall see it and be afraid;

Gaza too, and shall writhe in anguish;

Ekron also, because its hopes are withered.

The king shall perish from Gaza;

Ashkelon shall be uninhabited;

a mongrel people shall settle in Ashdod,

and I will make an end of the pride of Philistia.

I will take away its blood from its mouth,

and its abominations from between its teeth;

it too shall be a remnant for our God;

it shall be like a clan in Judah,

and Ekron shall be like the Jebusites.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

But the Lord will take away everything they have.

He’ll destroy their power on the Mediterranean Sea.

And Tyre will be completely burned up.

Ashkelon will see it and become afraid.

Gaza will groan with pain.

So will Ekron. Its hope will vanish.

Gaza will no longer have a king.

Ashkelon will be deserted.

Strangers will take over Ashdod.

The Lord says, “I will take away everything

the Philistines are so proud of.

They will no longer drink the blood of their animal sacrifices.

I will remove the ‘unclean’ food from between their teeth.

The Philistines who are left will belong to our God.

They will become leaders in Judah.

And Ekron will be like the Jebusites.

So the Philistines will become part of Israel.

Zechariah 9:4–7 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Behold, the Lord will dispossess her

And cast her wealth into the sea;

And she will be consumed with fire.

Ashkelon will see it and be afraid.

Gaza too will writhe in great pain;

Also Ekron, for her expectation has been confounded.

Moreover, the king will perish from Gaza,

And Ashkelon will not be inhabited.

And a mongrel race will dwell in Ashdod,

And I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

And I will remove their blood from their mouth

And their detestable things from between their teeth.

Then they also will be a remnant for our God,

And be like a clan in Judah,

And Ekron like a Jebusite.
