Amos 4:7–8 — The New International Version (NIV)

“I also withheld rain from you

when the harvest was still three months away.

I sent rain on one town,

but withheld it from another.

One field had rain;

another had none and dried up.

People staggered from town to town for water

but did not get enough to drink,

yet you have not returned to me,”

declares the Lord.

Amos 4:7–8 — English Standard Version (ESV)

“I also withheld the rain from you

when there were yet three months to the harvest;

I would send rain on one city,

and send no rain on another city;

one field would have rain,

and the field on which it did not rain would wither;

so two or three cities would wander to another city

to drink water, and would not be satisfied;

yet you did not return to me,”

declares the Lord.

Amos 4:7–8 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

And also I have withholden the rain from you,

When there were yet three months to the harvest:

And I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city:

One piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.

So two or three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water;

But they were not satisfied:

Yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord.

Amos 4:7–8 — New Living Translation (NLT)

“I kept the rain from falling

when your crops needed it the most.

I sent rain on one town

but withheld it from another.

Rain fell on one field,

while another field withered away.

People staggered from town to town looking for water,

but there was never enough.

But still you would not return to me,”

says the Lord.

Amos 4:7–8 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

“I also withheld rain from you,

When there were still three months to the harvest.

I made it rain on one city,

I withheld rain from another city.

One part was rained upon,

And where it did not rain the part withered.

So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water,

But they were not satisfied;

Yet you have not returned to Me,”

Says the Lord.

Amos 4:7–8 — New Century Version (NCV)

“I held back the rain from you

three months before harvest time.

Then I let it rain on one city

but not on another.

Rain fell on one field,

but another field got none and dried up.

People weak from thirst went from town to town for water,

but they could not get enough to drink.

Still you did not come back to me,” says the Lord.

Amos 4:7–8 — American Standard Version (ASV)

And I also have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered. So two or three cities wandered unto one city to drink water, and were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah.

Amos 4:7–8 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

And I also have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece of land was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered. And two, three, cities wandered unto one city, to drink water, and were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah.

Amos 4:7–8 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

I stopped the rain from falling

three months before the harvest.

I sent rain on one city and not on another.

One field had rain.

Another field had none and dried up.

So people from two or three cities staggered

as they walked to another city in order to get a drink of water.

But they couldn’t get enough.

And you still didn’t return to me, declares the Lord

Amos 4:7–8 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

I also withheld the rain from you

while there were still three months until harvest.

I sent rain on one city

but no rain on another.

One field received rain

while a field with no rain withered.

Two or three cities staggered

to another city to drink water

but were not satisfied,

yet you did not return to Me.

This is the Lord’s declaration.

Amos 4:7–8 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

And I also withheld the rain from you

when there were still three months to the harvest;

I would send rain on one city,

and send no rain on another city;

one field would be rained upon,

and the field on which it did not rain withered;

so two or three towns wandered to one town

to drink water, and were not satisfied;

yet you did not return to me,

says the Lord.

Amos 4:7–8 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

“I also held rain back from you.

The time to harvest crops

was still three months away.

I sent rain on one town.

But I held it back from another.

One field had rain.

Another did not. So it dried up.

People wandered from town to town to look for water.

But they did not get enough to drink.

In spite of that, you still have not returned to me,”

announces the Lord.

Amos 4:7–8 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Furthermore, I withheld the rain from you

While there were still three months until harvest.

Then I would send rain on one city

And on another city I would not send rain;

One part would be rained on,

While the part not rained on would dry up.

“So two or three cities would stagger to another city to drink water,

But would not be satisfied;

Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.
