John 14–16

14 Let anot your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In bmy Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. cI go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, dI will come again, and receive you unto myself; that ewhere I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. fThomas saith unto him, Lord, gwe know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am hthe way, ithe truth, and kthe life: no man cometh unto the Father, lbut by me. mIf ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from nhenceforth ye know him, and have seen him. oPhilip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? phe that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that qI am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you rI speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, she doeth the works. 11 Believe me that qI am in the Father, and the Father in me: tor else believe me for the very workssake. 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, uHe that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and vgreater works than these shall he do; because wI go unto my Father. 13 xAnd whatsoever ye shall ask yin my name, that will I do, that zthe Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

15 aIf ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another bComforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even cthe Spirit of truth; dwhom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: ebut ye know him; for fhe dwelleth with you, and gshall be in you. 18 I will not leave you ||comfortless: hI will come to you. 19 iYet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye jsee me: kbecause I live, ye shall live also. 20 lAt that day ye shall know that mI am in my Father, and ye in me, nand I in you. 21 aHe that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and ohe that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 ooJudas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, apIf a man love me, qhe will keep my words: and omy Father will love him, and rwe will come unto him, and smake our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and tthe word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.

25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26 But uthe Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom xthe Father will send in my name, yhe shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 zPeace I leave with you, amy peace I give unto you: not bas the world giveth, give I unto you. cLet not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 Ye have heard how dI said unto you, I go away, and ecome again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, fI go unto the Father: for gmy Father is greater than I. 29 And hnow I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. 30 iHereafter I will not talk much with you: for jthe prince of this world cometh, and khath nothing in me. 31 But lthat the world may know that I love mthe Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. nArise, let us go hence.

15 I am athe true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. bEvery branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now cye are clean through dthe word which I have spoken unto you. eAbide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, fye are the branches: eHe that abideth in me, and I in him, the same gbringeth forth much fruit: for ||without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and his withered; and imen gather them, and ijcast them into the fire, and ithey are burned. kIf ye abide in me, and dmy words abide in you, lye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. mHerein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; kso shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in nmy love. 10 oIf ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept pmy Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that qmy joy might remain in you, and rthat your joy might be full. 12 This is my commandment, sThat ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 tGreater love hath no man than this, uthat a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are xmy friends, yif ye do whatsoever I command you. 15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that zI have heard of my Father aI have made known unto you. 16 Ye have not chosen me, but bI have chosen you, and cordained you, that ye should go and dbring forth fruit, and that eyour fruit should remain: that fwhatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. 17 These things I command you, gthat ye love one another. 18 If hthe world hate you, ye know that it hated me ibefore it hated you. 19 kIf ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but lbecause ye are not of the world, but bI have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. 20 Remember the word that I said unto you, mThe servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, nthey will also persecute you; oif they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 21 But pall these things will they do unto you qfor my name’s sake, rbecause they know not him that sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, sthey had not had sin: tbut now they have no ||ucloke for their sin. 23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also. 24 If I had not done among them xthe works which none other man did, sthey had not had sin: but now have they both yseen and zhated both me and my Father. 25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in atheir law, bThey hated me without a cause. 26 But when cthe Comforter is come, dwhom I will send unto you from the Father, even ethe Spirit of truth, dwhich proceedeth from the Father, fhe shall testify of me: 27 And gye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me hfrom the beginning.

16 aThese things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not bbe offended. They shall cput you out of the synagogues: yea, dthe time cometh, ethat whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God fservice. And these things will they do unto you, gbecause they have not known the Father, nor me. But hthese things have I told you, that when dthe time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And ithese things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. But now kI go my way to him that sent me; and lnone of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? But because I have said these things unto you, msorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, nthe Comforter owill not come unto you; but pif I depart, qI will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will ||rreprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: sOf sin, tbecause they believe not on me; 10 uOf righteousness, wbecause I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 xOf judgment, because ythe prince of this world zis judged.

12 aI have yet many things to say unto you, bbut ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, cthe Spirit of truth, is come, dhe will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and ehe will fshew you things to come. 14 He shall gglorify me: for hhe shall receive of mine, and shall fshew it unto you. 15 iAll things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that hhe shall take of mine, and shall fshew it unto you. 16 kA little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and lye shall see me, mbecause I go to the Father.

17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, nA little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? 18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith. 19 Now Jesus oknew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, nA little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? 20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall pweep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but qyour sorrow shall be turned into joy. 21 A rwoman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. 22 And ye now therefore have ssorrow: but I will see you again, and tyour heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. 23 And uin that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, wWhatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, xthat your joy may be full. 25 These things have I spoken unto you in ||proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in ||proverbs, but I
