Zechariah 4:8–14 — The New International Version (NIV)

Then the word of the Lord came to me: “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.

10 “Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?”

11 Then I asked the angel, “What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?”

12 Again I asked him, “What are these two olive branches beside the two gold pipes that pour out golden oil?”

13 He replied, “Do you not know what these are?”

“No, my lord,” I said.

14 So he said, “These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth.”

Zechariah 4:8–14 — English Standard Version (ESV)

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. 10 For whoever has despised the day of small things shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.

“These seven are the eyes of the Lord, which range through the whole earth.” 11 Then I said to him, “What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?” 12 And a second time I answered and said to him, “What are these two branches of the olive trees, which are beside the two golden pipes from which the golden oil is poured out?” 13 He said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” I said, “No, my lord.” 14 Then he said, “These are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of the whole earth.”

Zechariah 4:8–14 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Then another message came to me from the Lord: “Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sent me. 10 Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”

(The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world.)

11 Then I asked the angel, “What are these two olive trees on each side of the lampstand, 12 and what are the two olive branches that pour out golden oil through two gold tubes?”

13 “Don’t you know?” he asked.

“No, my lord,” I replied.

14 Then he said to me, “They represent the two anointed ones who stand in the court of the Lord of all the earth.”

Zechariah 4:8–14 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

“The hands of Zerubbabel

Have laid the foundation of this temple;

His hands shall also finish it.

Then you will know

That the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you.

10 For who has despised the day of small things?

For these seven rejoice to see

The plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.

They are the eyes of the Lord,

Which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth.”

11 Then I answered and said to him, “What are these two olive trees—at the right of the lampstand and at its left?” 12 And I further answered and said to him, “What are these two olive branches that drip into the receptacles of the two gold pipes from which the golden oil drains?”

13 Then he answered me and said, “Do you not know what these are?

And I said, “No, my lord.”

14 So he said, “These are the two anointed ones, who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth.”

Zechariah 4:8–14 — New Century Version (NCV)

Then the Lord spoke his word to me again, saying, “Zerubbabel has laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the Lord All-Powerful has sent me to you.

10 “The people should not think that small beginnings are unimportant. They will be happy when they see Zerubbabel with tools, building the Temple.

“(These are the seven eyes of the Lord, which look back and forth across the earth.)”

11 Then I asked the angel, “What are the two olive trees on the right and left of the lampstand?”

12 I also asked him, “What are the two olive branches beside the two gold pipes, from which the olive oil flows to the lamps?”

13 He answered, “Don’t you know what they are?”

“No, sir,” I said.

14 So he said, “They are symbols of the two who have been appointed to serve the Lord of all the earth.”

Zechariah 4:8–14 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me unto you. 10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for these seven shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel; these are the eyes of Jehovah, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive-trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? 12 And I answered the second time, and said unto him, What are these two olive-branches, which are beside the two golden spouts, that empty the golden oil out of themselves? 13 And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these are? And I said, No, my lord. 14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; and his hands shall finish it: and thou shalt know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me unto you. 10 For who hath despised the day of small things? Yea, they shall rejoice even those seven—and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel: these are the eyes of Jehovah, which run to and fro in the whole earth.

11 And I answered and said unto him, What are these two olive-trees on the right of the lamp-stand and on its left? 12 And I answered the second time and said unto him, What are the two olive-branches which are beside the two golden tubes that empty the gold out of themselves? 13 And he spoke to me, saying, Knowest thou not what these are? And I said, No, my lord. 14 And he said, These are the two sons of oil, that stand before the Lord of the whole earth.

Zechariah 4:8–14 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Then the Lord spoke his word to me. He said, “Zerubbabel’s hands have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will finish it. Then you will know that the Lord of Armies has sent me to you. 10 Who despised the day when little things began to happen? They will be delighted when they see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. (These seven eyes of the Lord roam over all the earth.)”

11 I asked the angel, “What do these two olive trees at the right and the left of the lamp stand mean?” 12 Again I asked him, “What is the meaning of the two branches from the olive trees next to the two golden pipes that are pouring out gold?”

13 He asked me, “Don’t you know what these things mean?”

“No, sir,” I answered.

14 So he said, “These are the two anointed ones who are standing beside the Lord of the whole earth.”

These seven eyes of the Lord, which scan throughout the whole earth, will rejoice when they see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”

11 I asked him, “What are the two olive trees on the right and left of the lampstand?” 12 And I questioned him further, “What are the two olive branches beside the two gold conduits, from which golden oil pours out?”

13 Then he inquired of me, “Don’t you know what these are?”

“No, my lord,” I replied.

14 “These are the two anointed ones,” he said, “who stand by the Lord of the whole earth.”

These seven are the eyes of Yahweh which are ranging throughout the whole earth. 11 And I answered and said to him, “What are these two olive trees on the right of the lampstand and on its left?” 12 And I replied a second time and asked him, “What are these two twigs of olive trees beside the two golden pipes that pour forth from themselves the golden oil?” 13 And he replied to me, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my lord.” 14 And he said, “These are the two anointed ones standing by the Lord of the whole earth.”

A message came to me from the Lord. His angel said, “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple. His hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord who rules over all has sent me to you.

10 “Do not look down on the small amount of work done on the temple so far. People will be filled with joy when they see Zerubbabel holding the most important stone.

“The seven eyes on the stone are the eyes of the Lord himself. He looks out over the whole earth.”

11 Then I said to the angel, “I see two olive trees. One is on the right side of the lampstand. The other is on the left. What are those trees?”

12 I continued, “I also see two olive branches. They are next to the two gold pipes that pour out golden olive oil. What are those branches?”

13 He answered, “Don’t you know what they are?”

“No, sir,” I said.

14 So he told me, “They are Zerubbabel and Jeshua. The Lord of the whole earth has anointed them to serve him.”

Also the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

“The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will finish it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you.

10 “For who has despised the day of small things? But these seven will be glad when they see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabelthese are the eyes of the Lord which range to and fro throughout the earth.”

14 Then he said, “These are the two anointed ones who are standing by the Lord of the whole earth.”
