Joshua 15:1–17:18

This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; aeven to the border of Edom the bwilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of cthe south coast. And their south border was afrom the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looketh southward: And it went out to the south side to ||Maaleh-acrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Kadesh-barnea, and passed along to Hezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Karkaa: From thence it passed dtoward Azmon, and went out dunto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast. And the east border was the salt sea, even unto the end of Jordan. And their border in the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the uttermost part of Jordan: And the border went up to eBeth-hogla, and passed along by the north of fBeth-arabah; and the border went up gto the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben: And the border went up toward hDebir from ithe valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is gbefore the going up to Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: and the border passed toward the waters of gEn-shemesh, and the goings out thereof were at jEn-rogel: And the border went up kby the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the lJebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before mthe valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of mthe valley of the giants northward: And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto nthe fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to oBaalah, which is pKirjath-jearim: 10 And the border compassed from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim, which is Chesalon, on the north side, and went down to qBethshemesh, and passed on to rTimnah: 11 And the border went out unto the side of sEkron northward: and the border was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to mount tBaalah, and went out unto Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea. 12 And the west border was uto the great sea, and the coast thereof. This is the coast of the children of Judah round about according to their families.

13 wAnd unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, even ||the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron. 14 And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, xSheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. 15 And he went up thence to the inhabitants of yDebir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher. 16 zAnd Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. 17 And Othniel the ason of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife. 18 And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and bshe lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou? 19 Who answered, Give me a cblessing; for thou hast given me a south land; dgive me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families. 21 And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the coast of Edom southward were eKabzeel, and fEder, and Jagur, 22 And Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah, 23 And gKedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan, 24 hZiph, and iTelem, and Bealoth, 25 And Hazor, Hadattah, and Kerioth, and Hezron, which is Hazor, 26 Amam, and Shema, and jklMoladah, 27 And Hazar-gaddah, and Heshmon, and lBeth-palet, 28 And jkHazar-shual, and jmBeer-sheba, and Bizjothjah, 29 jBaalah, and Iim, and jnAzem, 30 And jnEltolad, and Chesil, and joHormah, 31 And jpZiklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah, 32 And jLebaoth, and Shilhim, and jqAin, and jrRimmon: all the cities are jtwenty and nine, with their villages:

33 And in the valley, sEshtaol, and sZoreah, and Ashnah, 34 And Zanoah, and En-gannim, tTappuah, and Enam, 35 uJarmuth, and wAdullam, xSocoh, and yAzekah, 36 And zSharaim, and Adithaim, and aGederah, ||and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages: 37 Zenan, and Hadashah, and bMigdal-gad, 38 And Dilean, and Mizpeh, and cJoktheel, 39 dLachish, and eBozkath, and dEglon, 40 And Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Kithlish, 41 And Gederoth, Beth-dagon, and Naamah, and fMakkedah; sixteen cities with their villages: 42 gLibnah, and hEther, and hAshan, 43 And Jiphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib, 44 And iKeilah, and jAchzib, and kMareshah; nine cities with their villages: 45 lEkron, with her mtowns and her villages: 46 From Ekron even unto the sea, all that lay near nAshdod, with their villages: 47 Ashdod with her mtowns and her villages, oGaza with her mtowns and her villages, unto pthe river of Egypt, and qthe great sea, and the border thereof:

48 And in the mountains, Shamir, and rJattir, and sSocoh, 49 And Dannah, and tKirjath-sannah, which is Debir, 50 And Anab, and uEshtemoh, and Anim, 51 And wGoshen, and xHolon, and yGiloh; eleven cities with their villages: 52 Arab, and zDumah, and Eshean, 53 And ||Janum, and aBeth-tappuah, and Aphekah, 54 And Humtah, and bKirjath-arba, which is Hebron, and Zior; nine cities with their villages: 55 cMaon, dCarmel, and eZiph, and fJuttah, 56 And gJezreel, and Jokdeam, and Zanoah, 57 Cain, Gibeah, and hTimnah; ten cities with their villages: 58 Halhul, Beth-zur, and iGedor, 59 And Maarath, and Beth-anoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages: 60 jKirjath-baal, which is Kirjath-jearim, and Rabbah; two cities with their villages:

61 In the wilderness, kBeth-arabah, Middin, and Secacah, 62 And Nibshan, and the city of Salt, and lEn-gedi; six cities with their villages. 63 mAs for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

16 And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho on the east, to athe wilderness that goeth up from Jericho throughout mount Beth-el, And goeth out from Beth-el to bLuz, and passeth along unto the borders of cArchi to Ataroth, And goeth down westward to the coast of Japhleti, unto the coast of dBeth-horon the nether, and to eGezer: and the goings out thereof are at the sea. fSo the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

And the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families was thus: even the border of their inheritance on the east side was gAtaroth-addar, unto hBeth-horon the upper; And the border went out toward the sea to iMichmethah on the north side; and the border went about eastward unto kTaanath-shiloh, and passed by it on the east to Janohah; And it went down from Janohah to Ataroth, and to lNaarath, and came to Jericho, and went out at Jordan. The border went out from mTappuah westward unto the nriver Kanah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim by their families. And othe separate cities for the children of Ephraim were among the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages. 10 pAnd they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and qserve under tribute.

17 There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the afirstborn of Joseph; to wit, for bMachir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead: because he was a man of war, therefore he had cGilead and Bashan. There was also a lot for dthe rest of the children of Manasseh by their families; for the children of e||Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of dHepher, and for the children of dShemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families. But fZelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. And they came near before gEleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, hThe Lord commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the Lord he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father. And there fell iten portions to Manasseh, jbeside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan; Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of Manasseh’s sons had the land of Gilead.

And the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to kMichmethah, that lieth before lShechem; and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of mEn-tappuah. Now Manasseh had the land of Tappuah: but mTappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim; And the coast descended unto the ||river Kanah, southward of the river: nthese cities of Ephraim are among the cities of Manasseh: the coast of Manasseh also was on the north side of the river, and the outgoings of it were at the sea: 10 Southward it was Ephraim’s, and northward it was Manasseh’s, and the sea is his border; and they met together in Asher on the north, and in Issachar on the east. 11 oAnd Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher pBeth-shean and her towns, and qIbleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of rDor and her towns, and the inhabitants of sEndor and her towns, and the inhabitants of tTaanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of tMegiddo and her towns, even three countries. 12 Yet uthe children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would
