Jeremiah 49:20–22 — The New International Version (NIV)

20 Therefore, hear what the Lord has planned against Edom,

what he has purposed against those who live in Teman:

The young of the flock will be dragged away;

their pasture will be appalled at their fate.

21 At the sound of their fall the earth will tremble;

their cry will resound to the Red Sea.

22 Look! An eagle will soar and swoop down,

spreading its wings over Bozrah.

In that day the hearts of Edom’s warriors

will be like the heart of a woman in labor.

Jeremiah 49:20–22 — English Standard Version (ESV)

20 Therefore hear the plan that the Lord has made against Edom and the purposes that he has formed against the inhabitants of Teman: Even the little ones of the flock shall be dragged away. Surely their fold shall be appalled at their fate. 21 At the sound of their fall the earth shall tremble; the sound of their cry shall be heard at the Red Sea. 22 Behold, one shall mount up and fly swiftly like an eagle and spread his wings against Bozrah, and the heart of the warriors of Edom shall be in that day like the heart of a woman in her birth pains.”

Jeremiah 49:20–22 — New Living Translation (NLT)

20 Listen to the Lord’s plans against Edom

and the people of Teman.

Even the little children will be dragged off like sheep,

and their homes will be destroyed.

21 The earth will shake with the noise of Edom’s fall,

and its cry of despair will be heard all the way to the Red Sea.

22 Look! The enemy swoops down like an eagle,

spreading his wings over Bozrah.

Even the mightiest warriors will be in anguish

like a woman in labor.

Jeremiah 49:20–22 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

20 Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord that He has taken against Edom,

And His purposes that He has proposed against the inhabitants of Teman:

Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out;

Surely He shall make their dwelling places desolate with them.

21 The earth shakes at the noise of their fall;

At the cry its noise is heard at the Red Sea.

22 Behold, He shall come up and fly like the eagle,

And spread His wings over Bozrah;

The heart of the mighty men of Edom in that day shall be

Like the heart of a woman in birth pangs.

Jeremiah 49:20–22 — New Century Version (NCV)

20 So listen to what the Lord has planned to do against Edom.

Listen to what he has decided to do to the people in the town of Teman.

He will surely drag away the young ones of Edom.

Their hometowns will surely be shocked at what happens to them.

21 At the sound of Edom’s fall, the earth will shake.

Their cry will be heard all the way to the Red Sea.

22 The Lord is like an eagle swooping down

and spreading its wings over the city of Bozrah.

At that time Edom’s soldiers will become very frightened,

like a woman having a baby.

Jeremiah 49:20–22 — American Standard Version (ASV)

20 Therefore hear ye the counsel of Jehovah, that he hath taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, even the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them. 21 The earth trembleth at the noise of their fall; there is a cry, the noise whereof is heard in the Red Sea. 22 Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah: and the heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

Jeremiah 49:20–22 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

20 Listen to the plans that the Lord is making against Edom

and the things he intends to do to those who live in Teman.

He will surely drag away the little ones of the flock.

He will surely destroy the pasture

because of the people who live in Teman.

21 The earth will quake at the sound of their downfall.

The sound of their crying will be heard at the Red Sea.

22 The enemy will swoop down like eagles

and spread their wings over Bozrah.

On that day Edom’s soldiers will be like women in childbirth.

Jeremiah 49:20–22 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

20 Therefore, hear the plans that the Lord has drawn up against Edom and the strategies He has devised against the people of Teman: The flock’s little lambs will certainly be dragged away, and their grazing land will be made desolate because of them. 21 At the sound of their fall the earth will quake; the sound of her cry will be heard at the Red Sea. 22 Look! It will be like an eagle soaring upward, then swooping down and spreading its wings over Bozrah. In that day the hearts of Edom’s warriors will be like the heart of a woman with contractions.

20 Therefore hear the plan that the Lord has made against Edom and the purposes that he has formed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the little ones of the flock shall be dragged away; surely their fold shall be appalled at their fate. 21 At the sound of their fall the earth shall tremble; the sound of their cry shall be heard at the Red Sea. 22 Look, he shall mount up and swoop down like an eagle, and spread his wings against Bozrah, and the heart of the warriors of Edom in that day shall be like the heart of a woman in labor.

and his plans that he has planned against the inhabitants of Teman.

Surely they will drag them away,

the little ones of the flock.

Surely he will cause to be desolated over them

their grazing place.

21 The earth will quake from the sound of their falling.

A cry of distress! Their voice will be heard at the Red Sea.

22 Look, like an eagle he will go up and he will swoop down,

and he will spread out his wings against Bozrah.

And the heart of the warriors of Edom will be in that day

like the heart of a woman who is in labor.

against the people of Edom.

Hear what he has planned against those who live in Teman.

Edom’s young people will be dragged away.

The Lord will completely destroy

their grasslands because of them.

21 When the earth hears Edom fall, it will shake.

The people’s cries will be heard all the way to the Red Sea.

22 Look! An enemy is coming.

It’s like an eagle diving down.

It will spread its wings over Bozrah.

At that time the hearts of Edom’s soldiers

will tremble in fear.

They’ll be like the heart of a woman having a baby.

22 Behold, He will mount up and swoop like an eagle and spread out His wings against Bozrah; and the hearts of the mighty men of Edom in that day will be like the heart of a woman in labor.
