James 4:1–10

From whence come wars and ||fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your ||lusts athat war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye ||bkill, and cdesire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. dYe ask, and receive not, ebecause ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your ||lusts. fYe adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that gthe friendship of the world is henmity with God? iwhosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that kthe scripture saith in vain, lThe spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth ||to envy? But mhe giveth more grace. Wherefore nhe saith, oGod resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. opSubmit yourselves therefore to God. qResist the devil, and he will flee from you. rDraw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. sCleanse your hands, ye sinners; and tpurify your hearts, ye udouble minded. Be afflicted, and vmourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 pwHumble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
