30  And this shall be a sign unto thee,

Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself;

And the second year that which springeth of the same:

And uin the third year sow ye, and reap,

And plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.

31  And †the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah

Shall again wtake root downward, and bear fruit upward:

32  For out of Jerusalem shall go forth xa remnant,

And †they that escape out of mount Zion:

The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this.

33  Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of Assyria,

yHe shall not come into this city,

zNor shoot an arrow there,

Nor come before it with †shields,

Nor acast a bank against it.

34  By the way that he came, by the same shall he return,

And shall not come into this city, saith the Lord.

35  For bI will defend this city to save it

For mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.

36 cThen the angel of the Lord went forth, and dsmote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. 37 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and ewent and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. 38 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of †Armenia: and Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.

38 *aIn those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And bIsaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, †Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and cprayed unto the Lord, 3 And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept †sore. 4 Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years. 6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and dI will defend this city. 7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he hath spoken; 8 eBehold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the †sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:

10  fI said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to gthe gates of the grave:

I am deprived of the residue of my years.

11  I said, I shall not see hthe Lord, even hthe Lord, iin the land of the living:

I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

12  Mine age is departed, and is removed from me kas a shepherd’s tent:

I have cut off llike a weaver my life: mhe will cut me off ||with pining sickness:

nFrom day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.

13  I reckoned ntill morning, that, oas a lion, so will he break all my bones:

nFrom day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.

14  Like pa crane or pa swallow, so did I qchatter:

I did qrmourn as a dove:

sMine eyes fail with looking upward:

O Lord, I am oppressed; ||tundertake for me.

15  What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it:

I shall ugo softly all my years vin the bitterness of my soul.

16  O Lord, wby these things men live,

And in all these things is the life of my spirit:

So wilt thou recover me, and wmake me to live.

17  Behold, ||for peace I had great bitterness:

But †thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption:

For xthou hast cast all my sins ybehind thy back.

18  For zthe grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee:

aThey that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

19  bThe living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day:

cThe father to the children shall make known thy truth.

20  The Lord was ready to save me:

Therefore we will sing my songs to dthe stringed instruments

All the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

21 For eIsaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover. 22 fHezekiah also had said, What is the sign gthat I shall go up to the house of the Lord?

39 *aAt that time Merodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick, and was recovered. 2 And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his ||precious things, bthe silver, and the gold, and bbthe spices, and bbthe precious ointment, and all the house of his ||†armour, and ball that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not. 3 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come cfrom a far country unto me, even from Babylon. 4 Then said he, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them. 5 Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the Lord of hosts: 6 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the Lord. 7 And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and ||they shall be eunuchs in dthe palace of the king of Babylon. 8 Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.

40 aComfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

2  Speak ye †comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her,

That her ||warfare is accomplished,

That her iniquity is pardoned:

For she hath received of the Lord’s hand bdouble for all her sins.

3  cThe voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, dPrepare ye the way of the Lord,

eMake straight in the desert a highway for our God.

4  fEvery valley shall be exalted,

And egevery mountain and hill shall be made low:

And hthe crooked shall be made ||straight,

And the rough places ||plain:

5  And ithe glory of the Lord shall be revealed,

kAnd all flesh shall see it together:

lFor the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

6  The voice said, Cry.

And he said, What shall I cry?

mAll flesh is npgrass,

And all the goodliness thereof is as opthe flower of the field:

7  mqThe grass withereth, othe flower fadeth:

Because rthe spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it:

Surely sthe people is ngrass.

8  mThe grass withereth, the flower fadeth:

tBut uthe word of our God shall stand for ever.

9  ||O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain;

||O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength;

Lift it up, be not afraid;

Say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!

10  Behold, the Lord God will come ||wwith strong hand,

And xhis arm shall rule for him:

yBehold, his reward is with him,

yAnd ||his work before him.

11  zHe shall afeed his flock like a shepherd:

bHe shall gather athe lambs with his arm,

And ccarry them in his bosom,

And dshall gently lead those ||that are with young.

12  eWho hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,

And imeted out heaven with the span,

And comprehended the dust of the earth in †a measure,

And fweighed the mountains in gscales,

And the hills in ga balance?

13  hWho hath idirected the Spirit of the Lord,

jOr being †his counseller hath taught him?

14  With whom took he counsel, and who †instructed him,

And taught him in the path of judgment,

And ktaught him knowledge,

And shewed to him the way of †understanding?

15  Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket,

And are counted as lthe small dust of the balance:

Behold, he taketh up mthe isles nas a very little thing.

16  And oLebanon is not sufficient to burn,

Nor pthe beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.

17  All nations before him are qas rnothing;

And qthey are counted to him less than rnothing, and svanity.

18  tTo whom then will ye liken God?

Or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

19  uThe workman melteth a graven image,

And xthe goldsmith yspreadeth it over with gold,

And casteth silver chains.

20  He that †is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot;

He seeketh unto him a cunning workman

To prepare a graven image, zthat shall not be moved.

21  aHave ye not known? have ye not heard?

Hath it not been told you from the beginning?

aHave ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

22  ||It is he that sitteth upon bthe circle of the earth,

And the inhabitants thereof are cas grasshoppers;

dThat stretcheth out the heavens eas a curtain,

And spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

23  fThat bringeth the princes to gnothing;

He maketh the judges of the earth as gvanity.

24  Yea, they shall not be planted;

Yea, they shall not be sown:

Yea, their hstock shall not take root in the earth:

And he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither,

And ithe whirlwind shall take them away kas stubble.

25  lTo whom then will ye mliken me, or mshall I be equal? saith the Holy One.

26  mmLift up your eyes on high,

And behold who hath created these things,

nThat bringeth out their host by number:

oHe calleth them all by names

By pthe greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power;

qNot one faileth.

27  Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel,

rMy way is hid from the Lord,

And smy judgment is passed over from my God?

28  aHast thou not known? ahast thou not heard,

That the everlasting God, the Lord,

The Creator of the ends of the earth,

Fainteth not, neither is weary?

ptThere is no searching of his understanding.

29  He giveth power to the faint;

And to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30  Even the youths shall faint and be weary,

And the young men shall utterly fall:

31  But uthey that wait
