7 My people are determined to turn from me.

Even though they call me God Most High,

I will by no means exalt them.

8 “How can I give you up, Ephraim?

How can I hand you over, Israel?

How can I treat you like Admah?

How can I make you like Zeboyim?

My heart is changed within me;

all my compassion is aroused.

9 I will not carry out my fierce anger,

nor will I devastate Ephraim again.

For I am God, and not a man—

the Holy One among you.

I will not come against their cities.

10 They will follow the Lord;

he will roar like a lion.

When he roars,

his children will come trembling from the west.

7 My people are bent on turning away from me,

and though they call out to the Most High,

he shall not raise them up at all.

8 How can I give you up, O Ephraim?

How can I hand you over, O Israel?

How can I make you like Admah?

How can I treat you like Zeboiim?

My heart recoils within me;

my compassion grows warm and tender.

9 I will not execute my burning anger;

I will not again destroy Ephraim;

for I am God and not a man,

the Holy One in your midst,

and I will not come in wrath.

10 They shall go after the Lord;

he will roar like a lion;

when he roars,

his children shall come trembling from the west;

7 For my people are determined to desert me.

They call me the Most High,

but they don’t truly honor me.

8 “Oh, how can I give you up, Israel?

How can I let you go?

How can I destroy you like Admah

or demolish you like Zeboiim?

My heart is torn within me,

and my compassion overflows.

9 No, I will not unleash my fierce anger.

I will not completely destroy Israel,

for I am God and not a mere mortal.

I am the Holy One living among you,

and I will not come to destroy.

10 For someday the people will follow me.

I, the Lord, will roar like a lion.

And when I roar,

my people will return trembling from the west.

7 My people are bent on backsliding from Me.

Though they call to the Most High,

None at all exalt Him.

8 “How can I give you up, Ephraim?

How can I hand you over, Israel?

How can I make you like Admah?

How can I set you like Zeboiim?

My heart churns within Me;

My sympathy is stirred.

9 I will not execute the fierceness of My anger;

I will not again destroy Ephraim.

For I am God, and not man,

The Holy One in your midst;

And I will not come with terror.

10 “They shall walk after the Lord.

He will roar like a lion.

When He roars,

Then His sons shall come trembling from the west;

7 My people have made up their minds

to turn away from me.

The prophets call them to turn to me,

but none of them honors me at all.

8 “Israel, how can I give you up?

How can I give you away, Israel?

I don’t want to make you like Admah

or treat you like Zeboiim.

My heart beats for you,

and my love for you stirs up my pity.

9 I won’t punish you in my anger,

and I won’t destroy Israel again.

I am God and not a human;

I am the Holy One, and I am among you.

I will not come against you in anger.

10 They will go after the Lord,

and he will roar like a lion.

When he roars,

his children will hurry to him from the west.

7 And my people are bent on backsliding from me: though they call them to him that is on high, none at all will exalt him.

8 How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I cast thee off, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboiim? my heart is turned within me, my compassions are kindled together. 9 I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee; and I will not come in wrath. 10 They shall walk after Jehovah, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children shall come trembling from the west.

7 Yea, my people are bent upon backsliding from me: though they call them to the Most High, none at all exalteth him.

8 How shall I give thee over, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee up, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? My heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together. 9 I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not again destroy Ephraim; for I am •God, and not man, —the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not come in anger. 10 They shall walk after Jehovah; he shall roar like a lion; when he shall roar, then the children shall hasten from the west:

I have changed my mind. 

I am deeply moved. 

9 I will not act on my burning anger. 

I will not destroy Ephraim again. 

I am God, not a human. 

I am the Holy One among you, 

and I will not come to you in anger. 

10 “My people will follow me when I roar like a lion. 

When I roar, my children will come trembling from the west.

Though they call to Him on high,

He will not exalt them at all.

How can I surrender you, Israel?

How can I make you like Admah?

How can I treat you like Zeboiim?

I have had a change of heart;

My compassion is stirred!

9 I will not vent the full fury of My anger;

I will not turn back to destroy Ephraim.

For I am God and not man,

the Holy One among you;

I will not come in rage.

10 They will follow the Lord;

He will roar like a lion.

When He roars,

His children will come trembling from the west.

To the Most High they call,

all my compassions are aroused.

9 I will not execute my fierce anger,

I will not again destroy Ephraim;

because I am God

and not a mortal,

the Holy One in your midst;

and I will not come in wrath.

10 They will go after Yahweh;

he roars like a lion.

When he roars,

his children will come trembling

from the sea.

7 My people have made up their minds

to turn away from me.

Even if they call out to me,

I will certainly not honor them.

I am the Most High God.”

8 The Lord continues,

“People of Ephraim, how can I give you up?

Israel, how can I hand you over to your enemies?

Can I destroy you as I did the town of Admah?

Can I treat you like Zeboiim?

My heart is stirred inside me.

It is filled with pity for you.

9 My anger will not burn against you anymore.

I will not completely destroy you.

After all, I am God.

I am not a mere man.

I am the Holy One among you.

My burning anger will not come against you.

10 I will roar like a lion against my enemies.

You will follow me.

When I roar, my children will come home trembling with fear.

You will return from the west.

7 So My people are bent on turning from Me.

Though they call them to the One on high,

None at all exalts Him.

8 How can I give you up, O Ephraim?

How can I surrender you, O Israel?

How can I make you like Admah?

How can I treat you like Zeboiim?

My heart is turned over within Me,

All My compassions are kindled.

9 I will not execute My fierce anger;

I will not destroy Ephraim again.

For I am God and not man, the Holy One in your midst,

And I will not come in wrath.

10 They will walk after the Lord,

He will roar like a lion;

Indeed He will roar

And His sons will come trembling from the west.
