Acts 28:25–29

25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, 26 Saying, oGo unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: 27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. 28 Be it known therefore unto you, that pthe salvation of God is sent qunto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it. 29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great rreasoning among themselves.

Acts 28:25–29 — The New International Version (NIV)

25 They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said through Isaiah the prophet:

26 “ ‘Go to this people and say,

“You will be ever hearing but never understanding;

you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”

27 For this people’s heart has become calloused;

they hardly hear with their ears,

and they have closed their eyes.

Otherwise they might see with their eyes,

hear with their ears,

understand with their hearts

and turn, and I would heal them.’

28 “Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!” 29

Acts 28:25–29 — English Standard Version (ESV)

25 And disagreeing among themselves, they departed after Paul had made one statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:

26 “ ‘Go to this people, and say,

“You will indeed hear but never understand,

and you will indeed see but never perceive.”

27 For this people’s heart has grown dull,

and with their ears they can barely hear,

and their eyes they have closed;

lest they should see with their eyes

and hear with their ears

and understand with their heart

and turn, and I would heal them.’

28 Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen.”

Acts 28:25–29 — New Living Translation (NLT)

25 And after they had argued back and forth among themselves, they left with this final word from Paul: “The Holy Spirit was right when he said to your ancestors through Isaiah the prophet,

26 ‘Go and say to this people:

When you hear what I say,

you will not understand.

When you see what I do,

you will not comprehend.

27 For the hearts of these people are hardened,

and their ears cannot hear,

and they have closed their eyes—

so their eyes cannot see,

and their ears cannot hear,

and their hearts cannot understand,

and they cannot turn to me

and let me heal them.’

28 So I want you to know that this salvation from God has also been offered to the Gentiles, and they will accept it.”

Acts 28:25–29 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

25 So when they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had said one word: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers, 26 saying,

‘Go to this people and say:

Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand;

And seeing you will see, and not perceive;

27 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.

Their ears are hard of hearing,

And their eyes they have closed,

Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,

Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,

So that I should heal them.” ’

28 “Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it!” 29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed and had a great dispute among themselves.

Acts 28:25–29 — New Century Version (NCV)

25 So they argued and began leaving after Paul said one more thing to them: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

26 ‘Go to this people and say:

You will listen and listen, but you will not understand.

You will look and look, but you will not learn,

27 because these people have become stubborn.

They don’t hear with their ears,

and they have closed their eyes.

Otherwise, they might really understand

what they see with their eyes

and hear with their ears.

They might really understand in their minds

and come back to me and be healed.’

28 “I want you to know that God has also sent his salvation to all nations, and they will listen!” 29 After Paul said this, the Jews left. They were arguing very much with each other.

Acts 28:25–29 — American Standard Version (ASV)

25 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Spirit through Isaiah the prophet unto your fathers, 26 saying,

Go thou unto this people, and say,

By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand;

And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:

27 For this people’s heart is waxed gross,

And their ears are dull of hearing,

And their eyes they have closed;

Lest, haply they should perceive with their eyes,

And hear with their ears,

And understand with their heart,

And should turn again, And I should heal them.

28 Be it known therefore unto you, that this salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles: they will also hear.

29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, having much disputing among themselves.

Acts 28:25–29 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

25 And being disagreed among themselves they left; Paul having spoken one word, Well spoke the Holy Spirit through Esaias the prophet to our fathers, 26 saying, Go to this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear and not understand, and seeing ye shall see and not perceive. 27 For the heart of this people has become fat, and they hear heavily with their ears, and they have closed their eyes; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. 28 Be it known to you therefore, that this salvation of God has been sent to the nations; they also will hear it. 29 And he having said this, the Jews went away, having great reasoning among themselves.

Acts 28:25–29 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

25 The Jews, unable to agree among themselves, left after Paul had quoted this particular passage to them: “How well the Holy Spirit spoke to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiah! 26 The Spirit said: ‘Go to these people and say,

“You will hear clearly but never understand.

You will see clearly but never comprehend.

27 These people have become close-minded

and hard of hearing.

They have shut their eyes

so that their eyes never see.

Their ears never hear.

Their minds never understand.

And they never turn to me for healing.” ’

28 “You need to know that God has sent his salvation to people who are not Jews. They will listen.”

Acts 28:25–29 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

25 Disagreeing among themselves, they began to leave after Paul made one statement: “The Holy Spirit correctly spoke through the prophet Isaiah to your ancestors 26 when He said,

Go to these people and say:

You will listen and listen,

yet never understand;

and you will look and look,

yet never perceive.

27 For the hearts of these people

have grown callous,

their ears are hard of hearing,

and they have shut their eyes;

otherwise they might see with their eyes

and hear with their ears,

understand with their heart,

and be converted,

and I would heal them.

28 Therefore, let it be known to you that this saving work of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen!” 29 [After he said these things, the Jews departed, while engaging in a prolonged debate among themselves.]

Acts 28:25–29 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

25 So they disagreed with each other; and as they were leaving, Paul made one further statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiah,

26 ‘Go to this people and say,

You will indeed listen, but never understand,

and you will indeed look, but never perceive.

27 For this people’s heart has grown dull,

and their ears are hard of hearing,

and they have shut their eyes;

so that they might not look with their eyes,

and listen with their ears,

and understand with their heart and turn—

and I would heal them.’

28 Let it be known to you then that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen.”

Acts 28:25–29 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

25 So being in disagreement with one another, they began to leave after Paul made one statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through the prophet Isaiah to your fathers, 26 saying,

‘Go to this people and say,

“You will keep on hearing and will never understand,

and you will keep on seeing and will never perceive.

27 For the heart of this people has become dull,

and with their ears they hear with difficulty,

and they have shut their eyes,

lest they see with their eyes,

and hear with their ears,

and understand with their heart,

and turn, and I would heal them.” ’

28 Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles. They also will listen!”

Acts 28:25–29 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

25 They didn’t agree with each other. They began to leave after Paul had made a final statement. He said, “The Holy Spirit was right when he spoke to your people long ago. Through Isaiah the prophet the Spirit said,

26 “ ‘Go to your people. Say to them,

“You will hear but never understand.

You will see but never know what you are seeing.”

27 These people’s hearts have become stubborn.

They can barely hear with their ears.

They have closed their eyes.

Otherwise they might see with their eyes.

They might hear with their ears.

They might understand with their hearts.

They might turn, and then I would heal them.’

28 “Here is what I want you to know. God has sent his salvation to people who are not Jews. And they will listen!”

Acts 28:25–29 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

25 And when they did not agree with one another, they began leaving after Paul had spoken one parting word, “The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers,

26 saying,

Go to this people and say,

You will keep on hearing, but will not understand;

And you will keep on seeing, but will not perceive;

27 For the heart of this people has become dull,

And with their ears they scarcely hear,

And they have closed their eyes;

Otherwise they might see with their eyes,

And hear with their ears,

And understand with their heart and return,

And I would heal them.” ’

28 Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will also listen.”

29 When he had spoken these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.
