19 It is said, ‘God stores up the punishment of the wicked for their children.’

Let him repay the wicked, so that they themselves will experience it!

20 Let their own eyes see their destruction;

let them drink the cup of the wrath of the Almighty.

21 For what do they care about the families they leave behind

when their allotted months come to an end?

19 God layeth up his iniquity for his children:

He rewardeth him, and he shall know it.

20 His eyes shall see his destruction,

And he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

21 For what pleasure hath he in his house after him,

When the number of his months is cut off in the midst?

19 “ ‘Well,’ you say, ‘at least God will punish their children!’

But I say he should punish the ones who sin,

so that they understand his judgment.

20 Let them see their destruction with their own eyes.

Let them drink deeply of the anger of the Almighty.

21 For they will not care what happens to their family

after they are dead.

19 They say, ‘God lays up one’s iniquity for his children’;

Let Him recompense him, that he may know it.

20 Let his eyes see his destruction,

And let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

21 For what does he care about his household after him,

When the number of his months is cut in half?

19 It is said, ‘God saves up a person’s punishment for his children.’

But God should punish the wicked themselves so they will know it.

20 Their eyes should see their own destruction,

and they should suffer the anger of the Almighty.

21 They do not care about the families they leave behind

when their lives have come to an end.

Let him recompense it unto himself, that he may know it:

20 Let his own eyes see his destruction,

And let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

21 For what careth he for his house after him,

When the number of his months is cut off?

God should pay back that person 

so that he would know that it is a punishment. 

20 His eyes should see his own ruin. 

He should drink from the wrath of the Almighty. 

21 How can he be interested in his family after he’s gone, 

when the number of his months is cut short? 

19 God reserves a person’s punishment for his children.

let him drink from the Almighty’s wrath!

21 For what does he care about his family once he is dead,

when the number of his months has run out?

Let it be paid back to them, so that they may know it.

20 Let their own eyes see their destruction,

and let them drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

21 For what do they care for their household after them,

when the number of their months is cut off?

20 Let his eyes see his decay,

and let him drink from the wrath of Shaddai,

21 for what does he care for his house after him,

when the number of his months is cut off?

19 People say, ‘God punishes a man’s children for his sins.’

But let him punish the man himself.

Then he’ll learn a lesson from it.

20 Let his own eyes see how he is destroyed.

Let him drink the wine of the Mighty One’s anger.

21 What does he care about the family he leaves behind?

What does he care about them

when his life comes to an end?
