Acts 10:42–48

42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to solemnly testify that He is the One appointed by God to be the Judge of the living and the dead. s 43 All the prophets testify t about Him that through His name u everyone who believes in Him will receive forgiveness of sins.” v

Gentile Conversion and Baptism

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came down w on all those who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers x who had come with Peter were astounded because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. y 46 For they heard them speaking in other * languages and declaring the greatness of z God.

Then Peter responded, 47 “Can anyone withhold water and prevent these people from being baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” a 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. b Then they asked him to stay for a few days.

Acts 10:42–48 — The New International Version (NIV)

42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.

Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

Then Peter asked, 47 “Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?” 48 So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterward Cornelius asked him to stay with them for several days.
