1 Corinthians 10:1–12

Warnings from Israel’s Past

10 Now I want you to know, * brothers, that our fathers d were all under the cloud, e all passed through the sea, f and all were baptized g into Moses h in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food, i and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from a spiritual rock j that followed them, and that rock was Christ. k But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the wilderness. l

Now these things became examples for us, so that we will not desire m evil things as they did. n o Don’t become idolaters p as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to play. q r s Let us not commit sexual immorality t as some of them did, u and in a single day 23,000 people fell dead. v Let us not test Christ as some of them did w and were destroyed by snakes. x 10 Nor should we complain y as some of them did, z a and were killed by the destroyer. b c 11 Now these things happened to them as examples, and they were written as a warning to us, d on whom the ends of the ages e have come. f 12 So, whoever thinks he stands must be careful not to fall. g
