Psalm 36:1–4 — The New International Version (NIV)

I have a message from God in my heart

concerning the sinfulness of the wicked:

There is no fear of God

before their eyes.

In their own eyes they flatter themselves

too much to detect or hate their sin.

The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful;

they fail to act wisely or do good.

Even on their beds they plot evil;

they commit themselves to a sinful course

and do not reject what is wrong.

Psalm 36:1–4 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart,

That there is no fear of God before his eyes.

For he flattereth himself in his own eyes,

Until his iniquity be found to be hateful.

The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit:

He hath left off to be wise, and to do good.

He deviseth mischief upon his bed;

He setteth himself in a way that is not good;

He abhorreth not evil.

Psalm 36:1–4 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Sin whispers to the wicked, deep within their hearts.

They have no fear of God at all.

In their blind conceit,

they cannot see how wicked they really are.

Everything they say is crooked and deceitful.

They refuse to act wisely or do good.

They lie awake at night, hatching sinful plots.

Their actions are never good.

They make no attempt to turn from evil.

Psalm 36:1–4 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked:

There is no fear of God before his eyes.

For he flatters himself in his own eyes,

When he finds out his iniquity and when he hates.

The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit;

He has ceased to be wise and to do good.

He devises wickedness on his bed;

He sets himself in a way that is not good;

He does not abhor evil.

Psalm 36:1–4 — New Century Version (NCV)

Sin speaks to the wicked in their hearts.

They have no fear of God.

They think too much of themselves

so they don’t see their sin and hate it.

Their words are wicked lies;

they are no longer wise or good.

At night they make evil plans;

what they do leads to nothing good.

They don’t refuse things that are evil.

Psalm 36:1–4 — American Standard Version (ASV)

The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart,

There is no fear of God before his eyes.

For he flattereth himself in his own eyes,

That his iniquity will not be found out and be hated.

The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit:

He hath ceased to be wise and to do good.

He deviseth iniquity upon his bed;

He setteth himself in a way that is not good;

He abhorreth not evil.

Psalm 36:1–4 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

The transgression of the wicked uttereth within my heart, There is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, even when his iniquity is found to be hateful. The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, to do good. He deviseth wickedness up on his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good: he abhorreth not evil.

Psalm 36:1–4 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

There is an inspired truth about the wicked person

who has rebellion in the depths of his heart:

He is not terrified of God.

He flatters himself and does not hate or ⸤even⸥ recognize his guilt.

The words from his mouth are ⸤nothing but⸥ trouble and deception.

He has stopped doing what is wise and good.

He invents trouble while lying on his bed

and chooses to go the wrong direction.

He does not reject evil.

Psalm 36:1–4 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

An oracle within my heart

concerning the transgression of the wicked person:

There is no dread of God before his eyes,

for in his own eyes he flatters himself too much

to discover and hate his sin.

The words of his mouth are malicious and deceptive;

he has stopped acting wisely and doing good.

Even on his bed he makes malicious plans.

He sets himself on a path that is not good

and does not reject evil.

Psalm 36:1–4 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

there is no fear of God

before their eyes.

For they flatter themselves in their own eyes

that their iniquity cannot be found out and hated.

The words of their mouths are mischief and deceit;

they have ceased to act wisely and do good.

They plot mischief while on their beds;

they are set on a way that is not good;

they do not reject evil.

Psalm 36:1–4 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

An oracle: the wicked has rebellion

in the midst of his heart.

There is no fear of God before his eyes.

For he flatters himself in his eyes,

hating to detect his iniquity.

The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit.

He has ceased to have insight and to do good.

He plans sin on his bed.

He puts himself on a way that is not good.

He does not reject evil.

Psalm 36:1–4 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Here are the words God has given me to say

about the evil ways of anyone who sins.

He doesn’t have any respect for God.

He praises himself so much

that he can’t see his sin or hate it.

His mouth speaks words that are evil and false.

He has stopped being wise. He has stopped doing good.

Even as he lies in bed he makes evil plans.

He commits himself to a sinful way of life.

He never says no to what is wrong.

Psalm 36:1–4 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)
