Proverbs 30:29–33

29  bThree things are stately in their tread;

bfour are stately in their stride:

30  the lion, which is mightiest among beasts

and cdoes not turn back before any;

31  the dstrutting rooster,5 the he-goat,

and a king whose army is with him.6

32  If you have been foolish, exalting yourself,

or if you have been devising evil,

eput your hand on your mouth.

33  For pressing milk produces curds,

pressing the nose produces blood,

Proverbs 30:29–33 — The New International Version (NIV)

29 “There are three things that are stately in their stride,

four that move with stately bearing:

30 a lion, mighty among beasts,

who retreats before nothing;

31 a strutting rooster, a he-goat,

and a king secure against revolt.

32 “If you play the fool and exalt yourself,

or if you plan evil,

clap your hand over your mouth!

33 For as churning cream produces butter,

and as twisting the nose produces blood,

so stirring up anger produces strife.”

Proverbs 30:29–33 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

29 There be three things which go well,

Yea, four are comely in going:

30 A lion which is strongest among beasts,

And turneth not away for any;

31 A greyhound; an he goat also;

And a king, against whom there is no rising up.

32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself,

Or if thou hast thought evil,

Lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

33 Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter,

And the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood:

So the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

Proverbs 30:29–33 — New Living Translation (NLT)

29 There are three things that walk with stately stride—

no, four that strut about:

30 the lion, king of animals, who won’t turn aside for anything,

31 the strutting rooster,

the male goat,

a king as he leads his army.

32 If you have been a fool by being proud or plotting evil,

cover your mouth in shame.

33 As the beating of cream yields butter

and striking the nose causes bleeding,

so stirring up anger causes quarrels.

Proverbs 30:29–33 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

29 There are three things which are majestic in pace,

Yes, four which are stately in walk:

30 A lion, which is mighty among beasts

And does not turn away from any;

31 A greyhound,

A male goat also,

And a king whose troops are with him.

32 If you have been foolish in exalting yourself,

Or if you have devised evil, put your hand on your mouth.

33 For as the churning of milk produces butter,

And wringing the nose produces blood,

So the forcing of wrath produces strife.

Proverbs 30:29–33 — New Century Version (NCV)

29 “There are three things that strut proudly,

really four that walk as if they were important:

30 a lion, the proudest animal,

which is strong and runs from nothing,

31 a rooster, a male goat,

and a king when his army is around him.

32 “If you have been foolish and proud,

or if you have planned evil, shut your mouth.

33 Just as stirring milk makes butter,

and twisting noses makes them bleed,

so stirring up anger causes trouble.”

Proverbs 30:29–33 — American Standard Version (ASV)

29 There are three things which are stately in their march,

Yea, four which are stately in going:

30 The lion, which is mightiest among beasts,

And turneth not away for any;

31 The greyhound; the he-goat also;

And the king against whom there is no rising up.

32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself,

Or if thou hast thought evil,

Lay thy hand upon thy mouth.

33 For the churning of milk bringeth forth butter,

And the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood;

So the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

Proverbs 30:29–33 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

29 There are three things which have a stately step, and four are comely in going: 30 The lion, mighty among beasts, which turneth not away for any; 31 a horse girt in the loins; or the he-goat; and a king, against whom none can rise up. 32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay the hand upon thy mouth. 33 For the pressing of milk bringeth forth butter, and the pressing of the nose bringeth forth blood; and the pressing of anger bringeth forth strife.

Proverbs 30:29–33 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

29 There are three things that walk with dignity,

even four that march with dignity:

30 a lion, mightiest among animals, which turns away from nothing,

31 a strutting rooster,

a male goat,

a king at the head of his army.

32 If you are such a godless fool as to honor yourself,

or if you scheme,

you had better put your hand over your mouth.

33 As churning milk produces butter

and punching a nose produces blood,

so stirring up angerproduces a fight.

Proverbs 30:29–33 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

29 Three things are stately in their stride,

even four are stately in their walk:

30 a lion, which is mightiest among beasts

and doesn’t retreat before anything,

31 a strutting rooster, a goat,

and a king at the head of his army.

32 If you have been foolish by exalting yourself

or if you’ve been scheming,

put your hand over your mouth.

33 For the churning of milk produces butter,

and twisting a nose draws blood,

and stirring up anger produces strife.

Proverbs 30:29–33 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

29 Three things are stately in their stride;

four are stately in their gait:

30 the lion, which is mightiest among wild animals

and does not turn back before any;

31 the strutting rooster, the he-goat,

and a king striding before his people.

32 If you have been foolish, exalting yourself,

or if you have been devising evil,

put your hand on your mouth.

33 For as pressing milk produces curds,

and pressing the nose produces blood,

so pressing anger produces strife.

Proverbs 30:29–33 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

29 There are three things that are magnificent of stride,

and four that are magnificent when moving:

30 a mighty lion among the beasts,

but he will not turn back from any face;

31 a strutting rooster or he-goat,

and a king whose army is with him.

32 If you have been foolish by exalting yourself,

and if you have devised evil, put your hand to your mouth.

33 For pressing milk produces curd,

and pressing the nose produces blood,

so pressing anger produces strife.

Proverbs 30:29–33 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

29 “Three things walk as if they were kings.

Four things move as kings do.

30 The first is a lion. It is mighty among the animals.

It doesn’t back away from anything.

31 The second is a rooster that walks proudly.

The third is a billy goat.

And the fourth is a king who has his army around him.

32 “Have you been foolish?

Have you thought you were better than others?

Have you planned evil?

If you have, put your hand over your mouth and stop talking!

33 If you churn cream, you will produce butter.

If you twist a nose, you will produce blood.

And if you stir up anger, you will produce a fight.”

Proverbs 30:29–33 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

29 There are three things which are stately in their march,

Even four which are stately when they walk:

30 The lion which is mighty among beasts

And does not retreat before any,

31 The strutting rooster, the male goat also,

And a king when his army is with him.

32 If you have been foolish in exalting yourself

Or if you have plotted evil, put your hand on your mouth.

33 For the churning of milk produces butter,

And pressing the nose brings forth blood;

So the churning of anger produces strife.
