1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — The New International Version (NIV)

Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.” We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — New Living Translation (NLT)

These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did, or worship idols as some of them did. As the Scriptures say, “The people celebrated with feasting and drinking, and they indulged in pagan revelry.” And we must not engage in sexual immorality as some of them did, causing 23,000 of them to die in one day.

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — New Century Version (NCV)

And these things happened as examples for us, to stop us from wanting evil things as those people did. Do not worship idols, as some of them did. Just as it is written in the Scriptures: “They sat down to eat and drink, and then they got up and sinned sexually.” We must not take part in sexual sins, as some of them did. In one day twenty-three thousand of them died because of their sins.

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

But these things happened as types of us, that we should not be lusters after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed fornication, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

These things have become examples for us so that we won’t desire what is evil, as they did. So don’t worship false gods as some of them did, as Scripture says, “The people sat down to a feast which turned into an orgy.” We shouldn’t sin sexually as some of them did. Twenty-three thousand of them died on one day.

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Now these things became examples for us, so that we will not desire evil things as they did. Don’t become idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to play. Let us not commit sexual immorality as some of them did, and in a single day 23,000 people fell dead.

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Now these things occurred as examples for us, so that we might not desire evil as they did. 1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we should not be desirers of evil things, just as those also desired them, and not become idolaters, as some of them did, just as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play,” nor commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed sexual immorality, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day,

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Now those things happened as examples for us. They are supposed to keep us from longing for evil things, as the people of Israel did.

So don’t worship statues of gods, as some of them did. It is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink. Then they got up to dance wildly in front of their god.” We should not commit sexual sins, as some of them did. In one day 23,000 of them died.

1 Corinthians 10:6–8 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved.

Nor let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day.
