Proverbs 1:24–31 — The New International Version (NIV)

24 But since you refuse to listen when I call

and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand,

25 since you disregard all my advice

and do not accept my rebuke,

26 I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you;

I will mock when calamity overtakes you—

27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,

when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind,

when distress and trouble overwhelm you.

28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;

they will look for me but will not find me,

29 since they hated knowledge

and did not choose to fear the Lord.

30 Since they would not accept my advice

and spurned my rebuke,

31 they will eat the fruit of their ways

and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

24 Because I have called, and ye refused;

I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel,

And would none of my reproof:

26 I also will laugh at your calamity;

I will mock when your fear cometh;

27 When your fear cometh as desolation,

And your destruction cometh as a whirlwind;

When distress and anguish cometh upon you.

28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer;

They shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29 For that they hated knowledge,

And did not choose the fear of the Lord:

30 They would none of my counsel:

They despised all my reproof.

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way,

And be filled with their own devices.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — New Living Translation (NLT)

24 “I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come.

I reached out to you, but you paid no attention.

25 You ignored my advice

and rejected the correction I offered.

26 So I will laugh when you are in trouble!

I will mock you when disaster overtakes you—

27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,

when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone,

and anguish and distress overwhelm you.

28 “When they cry for help, I will not answer.

Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me.

29 For they hated knowledge

and chose not to fear the Lord.

30 They rejected my advice

and paid no attention when I corrected them.

31 Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way,

choking on their own schemes.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

24 Because I have called and you refused,

I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,

25 Because you disdained all my counsel,

And would have none of my rebuke,

26 I also will laugh at your calamity;

I will mock when your terror comes,

27 When your terror comes like a storm,

And your destruction comes like a whirlwind,

When distress and anguish come upon you.

28 “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer;

They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.

29 Because they hated knowledge

And did not choose the fear of the Lord,

30 They would have none of my counsel

And despised my every rebuke.

31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way,

And be filled to the full with their own fancies.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — New Century Version (NCV)

24 I called, but you refused to listen;

I held out my hand, but you paid no attention.

25 You did not follow my advice

and did not listen when I corrected you.

26 So I will laugh when you are in trouble.

I will make fun when disaster strikes you,

27 when disaster comes over you like a storm,

when trouble strikes you like a whirlwind,

when pain and trouble overwhelm you.

28 “Then you will call to me,

but I will not answer.

You will look for me,

but you will not find me.

29 It is because you rejected knowledge

and did not choose to respect the Lord.

30 You did not accept my advice,

and you rejected my correction.

31 So you will get what you deserve;

you will get what you planned for others.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — American Standard Version (ASV)

24 Because I have called, and ye have refused;

I have stretched out my hand, and no man hath regarded;

25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel,

And would none of my reproof:

26 I also will laugh in the day of your calamity;

I will mock when your fear cometh;

27 When your fear cometh as a storm,

And your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind;

When distress and anguish come upon you.

28 Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer;

They will seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:

29 For that they hated knowledge,

And did not choose the fear of Jehovah:

30 They would none of my counsel;

They despised all my reproof.

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way,

And be filled with their own devices.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one regarded; 25 and ye have rejected all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: 26 I also will laugh in your calamity, I will mock when your fear cometh; 27 when your fear cometh as sudden destruction, and your calamity cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you: 28 —then will they call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me early, and shall not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of Jehovah; 30 they would none of my counsel, they despised all my reproof: 31 therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their way, and be filled with their own devices.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

24 “I called, and you refused to listen.

I stretched out my hands to you, and no one paid attention.

25 You ignored all my advice.

You did not want me to warn you.

26 I will laugh at your calamity.

I will make fun of you

when panic strikes you,

27 when panic strikes you like a violent storm,

when calamity strikes you like a wind storm,

when trouble and anguish come to you.

28 “They will call to me at that time, but I will not answer.

They will look for me, but they will not find me,

29 because they hated knowledge

and did not choose the fear of the Lord

30 They refused my advice.

They despised my every warning.

31 They will eat the fruit of their lifestyle.

They will be stuffed with their own schemes.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

24 Since I called out and you refused,

extended my hand and no one paid attention,

25 since you neglected all my counsel

and did not accept my correction,

26 I, in turn, will laugh at your calamity.

I will mock when terror strikes you,

27 when terror strikes you like a storm

and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,

when trouble and stress overcome you.

28 Then they will call me, but I won’t answer;

they will search for me, but won’t find me.

29 Because they hated knowledge,

didn’t choose to fear the Lord,

30 were not interested in my counsel,

and rejected all my correction,

31 they will eat the fruit of their way

and be glutted with their own schemes.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

24 Because I have called and you refused,

have stretched out my hand and no one heeded,

25 and because you have ignored all my counsel

and would have none of my reproof,

26 I also will laugh at your calamity;

I will mock when panic strikes you,

27 when panic strikes you like a storm,

and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,

when distress and anguish come upon you.

28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer;

they will seek me diligently, but will not find me.

29 Because they hated knowledge

and did not choose the fear of the Lord,

30 would have none of my counsel,

and despised all my reproof,

31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way

and be sated with their own devices.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

24 Because I called out and you refused me,

I stretched out my hand, yet there is none who heeds.

25 You have ignored all my counsel,

and my reproof you are not willing to accept.

26 I will also laugh at your calamity;

I will mock when panic comes upon you.

27 When your panic comes like a storm,

and your calamity arrives like a whirlwind,

when distress and anguish come upon you,

28 then they will call me, but I will not answer;

they will seek me diligently but not find me.

29 Since they hated knowledge,

and did not choose the fear of Yahweh,

30 they were not willing to accept my counsel,

they despised all my reproof.

31 They shall eat from the fruit of their way,

and they shall be sated from their own schemes,

Proverbs 1:24–31 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

24 But you turned away from me when I called out to you.

None of you paid attention when I reached out my hand.

25 You turned away from all my advice.

You wouldn’t accept my warning.

26 So I will laugh at you when you are in danger.

I will make fun of you when hard times come.

27 I will laugh when hard times hit you like a storm.

I will laugh when danger comes your way like a windstorm.

I will make fun of you when suffering and trouble come.

28 “Then you will call to me. But I won’t answer.

You will look for me. But you won’t find me.

29 You hated knowledge.

You didn’t choose to have respect for the Lord.

30 You wouldn’t accept my advice.

You turned your backs on my warnings.

31 So you will eat the fruit of the way you have lived.

You will choke on the fruit of what you have planned.

Proverbs 1:24–31 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

24 Because I called and you refused,

I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention;

25 And you neglected all my counsel

And did not want my reproof;

26 I will also laugh at your calamity;

I will mock when your dread comes,

27 When your dread comes like a storm

And your calamity comes like a whirlwind,

When distress and anguish come upon you.

28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer;

They will seek me diligently but they will not find me,

29 Because they hated knowledge

And did not choose the fear of the Lord.

30 “They would not accept my counsel,

They spurned all my reproof.

31 “So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way

And be satiated with their own devices.
