Jeremiah 22:17–19 — The New International Version (NIV)

17 “But your eyes and your heart

are set only on dishonest gain,

on shedding innocent blood

and on oppression and extortion.”

18 Therefore this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:

“They will not mourn for him:

‘Alas, my brother! Alas, my sister!’

They will not mourn for him:

‘Alas, my master! Alas, his splendor!’

19 He will have the burial of a donkey—

dragged away and thrown

outside the gates of Jerusalem.”

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

17 But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy covetousness,

And for to shed innocent blood,

And for oppression, and for violence, to do it.

18 Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah;

They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister!

They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!

19 He shall be buried with the burial of an ass,

Drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — New Living Translation (NLT)

17 “But you! You have eyes only for greed and dishonesty!

You murder the innocent,

oppress the poor, and reign ruthlessly.”

18 Therefore, this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim, son of King Josiah:

“The people will not mourn for him, crying to one another,

‘Alas, my brother! Alas, my sister!’

His subjects will not mourn for him, crying,

‘Alas, our master is dead! Alas, his splendor is gone!’

19 He will be buried like a dead donkey—

dragged out of Jerusalem and dumped outside the gates!

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

17 “Yet your eyes and your heart are for nothing but your covetousness,

For shedding innocent blood,

And practicing oppression and violence.”

18 Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

“They shall not lament for him,

Saying, ‘Alas, my brother!’ or ‘Alas, my sister!’

They shall not lament for him,

Saying, ‘Alas, master!’ or ‘Alas, his glory!’

19 He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey,

Dragged and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — New Century Version (NCV)

17 “But you only look for and think about

what you can get dishonestly.

You are even willing to kill innocent people to get it.

You feel free to hurt people and to steal from them.”

18 So this is what the Lord says to Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:

“The people of Judah will not cry when Jehoiakim dies,

saying: ‘Oh, my brother,’ or ‘Oh, my sister.’

They will not cry for him, saying:

‘Oh, master,’ or ‘Oh, my king.’

19 They will bury him like a donkey,

dragging his body away

and throwing it outside the gates of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — American Standard Version (ASV)

17 But thine eyes and thy heart are not but for thy covetousness, and for shedding innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it. 18 Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah: they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! They shall not lament for him, saying Ah lord! or, Ah his glory! 19 He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

17 But thine eyes and thy heart are only on thine extortion, and on the blood of the innocent, to shed it, and on oppression and on violence, to do it. 18 Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, the king of Judah: They shall not lament for him, Ah, my brother! or, Ah, sister! They shall not lament for him, Ah, lord! or Ah, his glory! 19 He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, dragged along and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

17 “But your eyes and your mind are set on nothing but dishonest profits.

You kill innocent people and violently oppress your people.”

18 This is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim, son of Judah’s King Josiah:

People won’t mourn for him and say,

“How horrible it is for my brother and sister!”

They won’t mourn for him and say,

“How horrible it is for my master and his splendor!”

19 He will receive a donkey’s burial.

He will be dragged off and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

17 But you have eyes and a heart for nothing

except your own dishonest profit,

shedding innocent blood

and committing extortion and oppression.

18 Therefore, this is what the Lord says concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah:

They will not mourn for him, saying,

“Woe, my brother!” or “Woe, my sister!”

They will not mourn for him, saying,

“Woe, lord! Woe, his majesty!”

19 He will be buried like a donkey,

dragged off and thrown

outside the gates of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

17 But your eyes and heart

are only on your dishonest gain,

for shedding innocent blood,

and for practicing oppression and violence.

18 Therefore thus says the Lord concerning King Jehoiakim son of Josiah of Judah:

They shall not lament for him, saying,

“Alas, my brother!” or “Alas, sister!”

They shall not lament for him, saying,

“Alas, lord!” or “Alas, his majesty!”

19 With the burial of a donkey he shall be buried—

dragged off and thrown out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

17 “But there is nothing in your eyes and your heart

except your unlawful gain,

and on shedding the blood of the innocent,

and on committing oppression and extortion.”

18 Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah:

“They will not lament for him,

‘Alas, my brother,’ or ‘Alas, sister.’

They will not lament for him,

‘Alas, lord,’ or ‘alas, his majesty.’

19 He will be buried with the burial of a donkey.

He will be dragged away and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

17 “Jehoiakim, the only thing on your mind

is to get rich by cheating others.

You would even kill people who are not guilty

of doing anything wrong.

You would mistreat them.

You would take everything they own.”

18 So the Lord speaks about King Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah. He says,

“His people will not sob over him.

They will not say,

‘My poor brother! My poor sister!’

They will not sob over him.

They will not say,

‘My poor master! How sad that his glory is gone!’

19 In fact, he will be buried like a donkey.

His body will be dragged away and thrown

outside the gates of Jerusalem.”

Jeremiah 22:17–19 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

17 “But your eyes and your heart

Are intent only upon your own dishonest gain,

And on shedding innocent blood

And on practicing oppression and extortion.”

18 Therefore thus says the Lord in regard to Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah,

“They will not lament for him:

Alas, my brother!’ or, ‘Alas, sister!’

They will not lament for him:

Alas for the master!’ or, ‘Alas for his splendor!’

19 “He will be buried with a donkey’s burial,

Dragged off and thrown out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
