Therefore justice is far from us,

and righteousness does not overtake us;

jwe hope for light, and behold, darkness,

and for brightness, but we walk in gloom.

10  kWe grope for the wall like the blind;

we grope like those who have no eyes;

we stumble at noon as in the twilight,

lamong those in full vigor we are like dead men.

11  We all growl like bears;

mwe moan and moan like doves;

nwe hope for justice, but there is none;

for salvation, but it is far from us.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — The New International Version (NIV)

So justice is far from us,

and righteousness does not reach us.

We look for light, but all is darkness;

for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows.

10 Like the blind we grope along the wall,

feeling our way like people without eyes.

At midday we stumble as if it were twilight;

among the strong, we are like the dead.

11 We all growl like bears;

we moan mournfully like doves.

We look for justice, but find none;

for deliverance, but it is far away.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Therefore is judgment far from us,

Neither doth justice overtake us:

We wait for light, but behold obscurity;

For brightness, but we walk in darkness.

10 We grope for the wall like the blind,

And we grope as if we had no eyes:

We stumble at noonday as in the night;

We are in desolate places as dead men.

11 We roar all like bears,

And mourn sore like doves:

We look for judgment, but there is none;

For salvation, but it is far off from us.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — New Living Translation (NLT)

So there is no justice among us,

and we know nothing about right living.

We look for light but find only darkness.

We look for bright skies but walk in gloom.

10 We grope like the blind along a wall,

feeling our way like people without eyes.

Even at brightest noontime,

we stumble as though it were dark.

Among the living,

we are like the dead.

11 We growl like hungry bears;

we moan like mournful doves.

We look for justice, but it never comes.

We look for rescue, but it is far away from us.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

Therefore justice is far from us,

Nor does righteousness overtake us;

We look for light, but there is darkness!

For brightness, but we walk in blackness!

10 We grope for the wall like the blind,

And we grope as if we had no eyes;

We stumble at noonday as at twilight;

We are as dead men in desolate places.

11 We all growl like bears,

And moan sadly like doves;

We look for justice, but there is none;

For salvation, but it is far from us.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — New Century Version (NCV)

Fairness has gone far away;

goodness is nowhere to be found.

We wait for the light, but there is only darkness now.

We hope for a bright light, but all we have is darkness.

10 We are like the blind feeling our way along a wall.

We feel our way as if we had no eyes.

In the brightness of day we trip as if it were night.

We are like dead men among the strong.

11 All of us growl like the bears.

We call out sadly like the doves.

We look for justice, but there isn’t any.

We want to be saved, but salvation is far away.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Therefore is justice far from us, neither doth righteousness overtake us: we look for light, but, behold, darkness; for brightness, but we walk in obscurity. 10 We grope for the wall like the blind; yea, we grope as they that have no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the twilight; among them that are lusty we are as dead men. 11 We roar all like bears, and moan sore like doves: we look for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Therefore is justice far from us, and righteousness overtaketh us not: we wait for light, and behold darkness; for brightness, but we walk in obscurity. 10 We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at midday as in the twilight; amongst the flourishing we are as the dead. 11 We roar all like bears, and mourn grievously like doves: we look for judgment, and there is none; for salvation, but it is far from us.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

That is why justice is far from us,

and righteousness doesn’t reach us.

We hope for light, but we walk in darkness.

We hope for brightness, but we walk in gloom.

10 We grope like blind men along a wall.

We grope like people without eyes.

We stumble at noon as if it were twilight.

We are like dead people among healthy people.

11 We all growl like bears.

We coo like doves.

We hope for justice, but there is none.

We hope for salvation, but it’s far from us.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Therefore justice is far from us,

and righteousness does not reach us.

We hope for light, but there is darkness;

for brightness, but we live in the night.

10 We grope along a wall like the blind;

we grope like those without eyes.

We stumble at noon as though it were twilight;

we are like the dead among those who are healthy.

11 We all growl like bears

and moan like doves.

We hope for justice, but there is none;

for salvation, but it is far from us.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Therefore justice is far from us,

and righteousness does not reach us;

we wait for light, and lo! there is darkness;

and for brightness, but we walk in gloom.

10 We grope like the blind along a wall,

groping like those who have no eyes;

we stumble at noon as in the twilight,

among the vigorous as though we were dead.

11 We all growl like bears;

like doves we moan mournfully.

We wait for justice, but there is none;

for salvation, but it is far from us.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

Therefore justice is far from us,

and righteousness does not reach us.

We wait for light, but look! there is darkness;

for brightness, but we walk in darkness.

10 We grope like the blind along a wall,

and we grope as without eyes.

We stumble at noon as in the twilight;

among the strong we are like the dead.

11 We all groan like bears,

and we coo mutteringly like doves.

We wait for justice, but there is none;

for salvation, but it is far from us.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

We aren’t being treated fairly.

We haven’t been set free yet.

The God who always does what is right

hasn’t come to help us.

We look for light. But we see nothing but darkness.

We look for brightness. But we walk in deep shadows.

10 Like blind people we feel our way along the wall.

We are like those who can’t see.

At noon we trip and fall as if the sun had already set.

Compared to those who are healthy, we are like dead people.

11 All of us growl like hungry bears.

We cry like sad doves.

We want the Lord to do what is fair and save us.

But he doesn’t do it.

We long for him to set us free.

But the time for that seems far away.

Isaiah 59:9–11 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Therefore justice is far from us,

And righteousness does not overtake us;

We hope for light, but behold, darkness,

For brightness, but we walk in gloom.

10 We grope along the wall like blind men,

We grope like those who have no eyes;

We stumble at midday as in the twilight,

Among those who are vigorous we are like dead men.

11 All of us growl like bears,

And moan sadly like doves;

We hope for justice, but there is none,

For salvation, but it is far from us.
