Ezekiel 31:7–10 — The New International Version (NIV)

It was majestic in beauty,

with its spreading boughs,

for its roots went down

to abundant waters.

The cedars in the garden of God

could not rival it,

nor could the junipers

equal its boughs,

nor could the plane trees

compare with its branches—

no tree in the garden of God

could match its beauty.

I made it beautiful

with abundant branches,

the envy of all the trees of Eden

in the garden of God.

10 “ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because the great cedar towered over the thick foliage, and because it was proud of its height,

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters. The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty. I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

10 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — New Living Translation (NLT)

It was strong and beautiful,

with wide-spreading branches,

for its roots went deep

into abundant water.

No other cedar in the garden of God

could rival it.

No cypress had branches to equal it;

no plane tree had boughs to compare.

No tree in the garden of God

came close to it in beauty.

Because I made this tree so beautiful,

and gave it such magnificent foliage,

it was the envy of all the other trees of Eden,

the garden of God.

10 “Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because Egypt became proud and arrogant, and because it set itself so high above the others, with its top reaching to the clouds,

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

‘Thus it was beautiful in greatness and in the length of its branches,

Because its roots reached to abundant waters.

The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it;

The fir trees were not like its boughs,

And the chestnut trees were not like its branches;

No tree in the garden of God was like it in beauty.

I made it beautiful with a multitude of branches,

So that all the trees of Eden envied it,

That were in the garden of God.’

10 “Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Because you have increased in height, and it set its top among the thick boughs, and its heart was lifted up in its height,

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — New Century Version (NCV)

So the tree was great and beautiful,

with its long branches,

because its roots reached down to much water.

The cedar trees in the garden of God

were not as great as it was.

The pine trees

did not have such great limbs.

The plane trees

did not have such branches.

No tree in the garden of God

was as beautiful as this tree.

I made it beautiful

with many branches,

and all the trees of Eden in the garden of God

wanted to be like it.

10 “ ‘So this is what the Lord God says: The tree grew tall. Its top reached the clouds, and it became proud of its height.

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Thus was it fair in its greatness, in the length of its branches; for its root was by many waters. The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it; the fir-trees were not like its boughs, and the plane-trees were not as its branches; nor was any tree in the garden of God like unto it in its beauty. I made it fair by the multitude of its branches, so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied it.

10 Therefore thus said the Lord Jehovah: Because thou art exalted in stature, and he hath set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: because his root was by great waters. The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him; the cypresses were not like his boughs, and the plane-trees were not as his branches: no tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty. I had made him fair by the multitude of his branches; and all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

10 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thou hast lifted up thyself in stature, …and he hath set his top amidst the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height,

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

So the tree was big and beautiful with its long branches.

Its roots reached down to many sources of water.

The cedar trees in God’s garden couldn’t compare to it.

The pine trees couldn’t equal its branches.

The plane trees couldn’t measure up to its branches.

All the trees in God’s garden couldn’t match its beauty.

I was the one who made it beautiful with its many branches.

This tree was the envy of all the trees in Eden, in God’s garden.

10 “ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: The tree grew very tall, and its top reached the clouds. It became arrogant because it was so tall.

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

It was beautiful in its greatness,

in the length of its limbs,

for its roots extended to abundant water.

The cedars in God’s garden could not rival it;

the pine trees couldn’t compare with its branches,

nor could the plane trees match its boughs.

No tree in the garden of God

could compare with it in beauty.

I made it beautiful with its many limbs,

and all the trees of Eden,

which were in God’s garden, envied it.

10 “Therefore this is what the Lord God says: Since it became great in height and set its top among the clouds, and it grew proud on account of its height,

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

It was beautiful in its greatness,

in the length of its branches;

for its roots went down

to abundant water.

The cedars in the garden of God could not rival it,

nor the fir trees equal its boughs;

the plane trees were as nothing

compared with its branches;

no tree in the garden of God

was like it in beauty.

I made it beautiful

with its mass of branches,

the envy of all the trees of Eden

that were in the garden of God.

10 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because it towered high and set its top among the clouds, and its heart was proud of its height,

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

And it was beautiful in its greatness,

in the length of its branches,

for its root was toward much water.

Cedars in the garden of God

could not be equal to it;

fir trees could not resemble its branches,

and plane trees were not even like its branches;

any tree even in the garden of God

could not resemble it in its beauty.

I made it beautiful with the abundance of its branches,

and all of the trees of Eden that were in the garden of God envied it.’ ”

10 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Because it was tall in height and it set its treetop between thick clouds, and he took pride in his tallness,

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

Its spreading branches

made it majestic and beautiful.

Its roots went down deep

to where there was plenty of water.

The cedar trees in my garden

were no match for it.

The pine trees

could not equal its limbs.

The plane trees

could not compare with its branches.

No tree in my garden

could match its beauty.

I gave it many branches.

They made it beautiful.

All of the trees in my Garden of Eden

were jealous of it.’ ”

10 So the Lord and King says, “The cedar tree grew very high. Its top was above all of the leaves. It was proud of how tall it was.

Ezekiel 31:7–10 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

‘So it was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches;

For its roots extended to many waters.

‘The cedars in God’s garden could not match it;

The cypresses could not compare with its boughs,

And the plane trees could not match its branches.

No tree in God’s garden could compare with it in its beauty.

‘I made it beautiful with the multitude of its branches,

And all the trees of Eden, which were in the garden of God, were jealous of it.

10 Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Because it is high in stature and has set its top among the clouds, and its heart is haughty in its loftiness,
