2 “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“ ‘In the pride of your heart

you say, “I am a god;

I sit on the throne of a god

in the heart of the seas.”

But you are a mere mortal and not a god,

though you think you are as wise as a god.

3 Are you wiser than Daniel?

Is no secret hidden from you?

4 By your wisdom and understanding

you have gained wealth for yourself

and amassed gold and silver

in your treasuries.

5 By your great skill in trading

you have increased your wealth,

and because of your wealth

your heart has grown proud.

6 “ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“ ‘Because you think you are wise,

as wise as a god,

2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord God; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God: 3 Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee: 4 With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures: 5 By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches: 6 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God;

2 “Son of man, give the prince of Tyre this message from the Sovereign Lord:

“In your great pride you claim, ‘I am a god!

I sit on a divine throne in the heart of the sea.’

But you are only a man and not a god,

though you boast that you are a god.

3 You regard yourself as wiser than Daniel

and think no secret is hidden from you.

4 With your wisdom and understanding you have amassed great wealth—

gold and silver for your treasuries.

5 Yes, your wisdom has made you very rich,

and your riches have made you very proud.

6 “Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

Because you think you are as wise as a god,

2 “Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord God:

“Because your heart is lifted up,

And you say, ‘I am a god,

I sit in the seat of gods,

In the midst of the seas,’

Yet you are a man, and not a god,

Though you set your heart as the heart of a god

3 (Behold, you are wiser than Daniel!

There is no secret that can be hidden from you!

4 With your wisdom and your understanding

You have gained riches for yourself,

And gathered gold and silver into your treasuries;

5 By your great wisdom in trade you have increased your riches,

And your heart is lifted up because of your riches),”

6 ‘Therefore thus says the Lord God:

“Because you have set your heart as the heart of a god,

2 “Human, say to the ruler of Tyre: ‘This is what the Lord God says:

Because you are proud,

you say, “I am a god.

I sit on the throne of a god

in the middle of the seas.”

You think you are as wise as a god,

but you are a human, not a god.

3 You think you are wiser than Daniel.

You think you can find out all secrets.

4 Through your wisdom and understanding

you have made yourself rich.

You have gained gold and silver

and have saved it in your storerooms.

5 Through your great skill in trading,

you have made your riches grow.

You are too proud

because of your riches.

6 “ ‘So this is what the Lord God says:

You think you are wise

like a god,

2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thy heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art man, and not God, though thou didst set thy heart as the heart of God;— 3 behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that is hidden from thee; 4 by thy wisdom and by thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures; 5 by thy great wisdom and by thy traffic hast thou increased thy riches, and thy heart is lifted up because of thy riches;— 6 therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thou hast set thy heart as the heart of God,

2 Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thy heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a •god, I sit in the seat of God, in the heart of the seas, (and thou art a man, and not •God,) and thou settest thy heart as the heart of God: 3 behold, thou art wiser than Daniel! nothing secret is obscure for thee; 4 by thy wisdom and by thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures; 5 by thy great wisdom thou hast by thy traffic increased thy riches, and thy heart is lifted up because of thy riches. 6 Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because thou hast set thy heart as the heart of God,

2 “Son of man, tell the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: 

In your arrogance you say, 

“I’m a god. I sit on God’s throne in the sea.” 

But you’re only human and not a god, 

although you think you are a god. 

3 You think that you are wiser than Daniel 

and that no secret can be hidden from you. 

4 Because you are wise and understanding, 

you’ve made yourself rich. 

You saved gold and silver in your treasuries. 

5 Because of your great skill in trading, 

you’ve made yourself very wealthy. 

You have become arrogant because of your wealth. 

6 “ ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says: 

You think you are wise like God. 

2 “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre: This is what the Lord God says:

Your heart is proud,

and you have said, ‘I am a god;

I sit in the seat of gods

in the heart of the sea.’

Yet you are a man and not a god,

though you have regarded your heart

as that of a god.

3 Yes, you are wiser than Daniel;

no secret is hidden from you!

4 By your wisdom and understanding

you have acquired wealth for yourself.

You have acquired gold and silver

for your treasuries.

5 By your great skill in trading

you have increased your wealth,

but your heart has become proud

because of your wealth.”

6 Therefore this is what the Lord God says:

Because you regard your heart as that of a god,

2 Mortal, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord God:

Because your heart is proud

and you have said, “I am a god;

I sit in the seat of the gods,

in the heart of the seas,”

yet you are but a mortal, and no god,

though you compare your mind

with the mind of a god.

3 You are indeed wiser than Daniel;

no secret is hidden from you;

4 by your wisdom and your understanding

you have amassed wealth for yourself,

and have gathered gold and silver

into your treasuries.

5 By your great wisdom in trade

you have increased your wealth,

and your heart has become proud in your wealth.

6 Therefore thus says the Lord God:

Because you compare your mind

with the mind of a god,

2 “Son of man, say to the leader of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh:

“Because your heart was haughty,

and you said, ‘I am a god;

I sit in the seat of the gods,

I sit in the heart of the seas!’

But you are a human, not a god,

and you gave your heart to be like the heart of a god.

3 Look, are you wiser than Daniel,

so that no secret is hidden from you?

4 By your wisdom and by your understanding

you have gained for yourself wealth,

and you have amassed gold and silver

in your treasuries.

5 By the abundance of your wisdom in your trading

you have increased your wealth

and your heart was proud in your wealth.” ’ ”

6 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh:

“Because of your regarding your mind

like the mind of a god,

2 “Son of man, speak to Ethbaal. He is the ruler of Tyre. Tell him, ‘The Lord and King says,

“ ‘ “In your proud heart

you say, ‘I am a god.

I sit on the throne of a god

in the Mediterranean Sea.’

But you are only a man. You are not a god.

In spite of that, you think you are as wise as a god.

3 Are you wiser than Daniel?

Isn’t even one secret hidden from you?

4 You are wise and understanding.

So you have become very wealthy.

You have piled up gold and silver

among your treasures.

5 You have used your great skill in trading

to increase your wealth.

You are very rich.

So your heart has become proud.” ’ ”

6 The Lord and King says,

“You think you are wise.

In fact, you claim to be as wise as a god.

2 “Son of man, say to the leader of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord God,

“Because your heart is lifted up

And you have said, ‘I am a god,

I sit in the seat of gods

In the heart of the seas’;

Yet you are a man and not God,

Although you make your heart like the heart of God—

3 Behold, you are wiser than Daniel;

There is no secret that is a match for you.

4 “By your wisdom and understanding

You have acquired riches for yourself

And have acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.

5 “By your great wisdom, by your trade

You have increased your riches

And your heart is lifted up because of your riches—

6 Therefore thus says the Lord God,

‘Because you have made your heart

Like the heart of God,
