9 “Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘This is what the Lord says:

“ ‘A sword, a sword,

sharpened and polished—

10 sharpened for the slaughter,

polished to flash like lightning!

“ ‘Shall we rejoice in the scepter of my royal son? The sword despises every such stick.

11 “ ‘The sword is appointed to be polished,

to be grasped with the hand;

it is sharpened and polished,

made ready for the hand of the slayer.

9 Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord; Say, A sword, a sword is sharpened, and also furbished: 10 It is sharpened to make a sore slaughter; it is furbished that it may glitter: should we then make mirth? it contemneth the rod of my son, as every tree. 11 And he hath given it to be furbished, that it may be handled: this sword is sharpened, and it is furbished, to give it into the hand of the slayer.

9 “Son of man, give the people this message from the Lord:

“A sword, a sword

is being sharpened and polished.

10 It is sharpened for terrible slaughter

and polished to flash like lightning!

Now will you laugh?

Those far stronger than you have fallen beneath its power!

11 Yes, the sword is now being sharpened and polished;

it is being prepared for the executioner.

9 “Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord!’ Say:

‘A sword, a sword is sharpened

And also polished!

10 Sharpened to make a dreadful slaughter,

Polished to flash like lightning!

Should we then make mirth?

It despises the scepter of My son,

As it does all wood.

11 And He has given it to be polished,

That it may be handled;

This sword is sharpened, and it is polished

To be given into the hand of the slayer.’

9 “Human, prophesy and say, ‘This is what the Lord says:

A sword, a sword,

made sharp and polished.

10 It is made sharp for the killing.

It is polished to flash like lightning.

“ ‘You are not happy about this horrible punishment by the sword. But my son Judah, you did not change when you were only beaten with a rod.

11 The sword should be polished.

It is meant to be held in the hand.

It is made sharp and polished,

ready for the hand of a killer.

9 Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith Jehovah: Say, A sword, a sword, it is sharpened, and also furbished; 10 it is sharpened that it may make a slaughter; it is furbished that it may be as lightning: shall we then make mirth? the rod of my son, it contemneth every tree. 11 And it is given to be furbished, that it may be handled: the sword, it is sharpened, yea, it is furbished, to give it into the hand of the slayer.

Shall we then make mirth, saying, The sceptre of my son contemneth all wood? 11 And he hath given it to be furbished that it may be handled. The sword, —it is sharpened, and it is furbished to give it into the hand of the slayer.

9 “Son of man, prophesy. Tell them, ‘This is what the Lord says: 

A sword, a sword is sharpened and polished, 

10 It’s sharpened to kill 

and polished to flash like lightning. 

How can we rejoice? 

My son has refused to be disciplined or punished. 

11 The sword has been handed over to be polished, 

to be placed in the hand. 

The sword is being sharpened and polished 

to be placed in the hands of killers. 

9 “Son of man, prophesy: This is what the Lord says! You are to proclaim:

A sword! A sword is sharpened

and also polished.

10 It is sharpened for slaughter,

polished to flash like lightning!

Should we rejoice?

The scepter of My son,

the sword despises every tree.

11 The sword is given to be polished,

to be grasped in the hand.

It is sharpened, and it is polished,

to be put in the hand of the slayer.

9 Mortal, prophesy and say: Thus says the Lord; Say:

A sword, a sword is sharpened,

it is also polished;

10 it is sharpened for slaughter,

honed to flash like lightning!

How can we make merry?

You have despised the rod,

and all discipline.

11 The sword is given to be polished,

to be grasped in the hand;

it is sharpened, the sword is polished,

to be placed in the slayer’s hand.

9 “Son of man, prophesy, and you must say, ‘Thus says the Lord,’ say, ‘A sword, a sword is sharpened and is also polished. 10 It is sharpened to slaughter a slaughter, polished to flash like lightning! Or will we rejoice? A rod, my son, is despising every tree. 11 And he gives it to be polished, to be seized by the hand. It is sharpened—a sword—and it is polished to give it into the hand of the killer.

9 “Son of man, prophesy. Say, ‘The Lord says,

“ ‘ “A sword! A sword!

A sharp and shiny sword is coming from Babylonia!

10 It is sharpened to kill people.

It flashes like lightning.” ’ ”

The people say, “Should we take delight in the rod of the ruler of the Lord’s son Judah? The sword looks down on every stick like that.”

11 The Lord says,

“I have told Nebuchadnezzar to shine his sword.

It is in his hand.

It has been sharpened and shined.

It is ready for the killer’s hand.

9 “Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord.’ Say,

‘A sword, a sword sharpened

And also polished!

10 ‘Sharpened to make a slaughter,

Polished to flash like lightning!’

Or shall we rejoice, the rod of My son despising every tree?

11 “It is given to be polished, that it may be handled; the sword is sharpened and polished, to give it into the hand of the slayer.
