1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — The New International Version (NIV)

Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — King James Version (KJV 1900)

But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — New Living Translation (NLT)

Yet God was not pleased with most of them, and their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did, or worship idols as some of them did. As the Scriptures say, “The people celebrated with feasting and drinking, and they indulged in pagan revelry.”

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — The New King James Version (NKJV)

But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — New Century Version (NCV)

But God was not pleased with most of them, so they died in the desert.

And these things happened as examples for us, to stop us from wanting evil things as those people did. Do not worship idols, as some of them did. Just as it is written in the Scriptures: “They sat down to eat and drink, and then they got up and sinned sexually.”

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — American Standard Version (ASV)

Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)

yet God was not pleased with the most of them, for they were strewed in the desert.

But these things happened as types of us, that we should not be lusters after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Yet, God was not pleased with most of them, so their dead bodies were scattered over the desert.

These things have become examples for us so that we won’t desire what is evil, as they did. So don’t worship false gods as some of them did, as Scripture says, “The people sat down to a feast which turned into an orgy.”

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the wilderness.

Now these things became examples for us, so that we will not desire evil things as they did. Don’t become idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to play.

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them, and they were struck down in the wilderness.

Now these things occurred as examples for us, so that we might not desire evil as they did. Do not become idolaters as some of them did; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and they rose up to play.”

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)

But God was not pleased with the majority of them, for they were struck down in the desert.

Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we should not be desirers of evil things, just as those also desired them, and not become idolaters, as some of them did, just as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play,”

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)

But God was not pleased with most of them. Their bodies were scattered all over the desert.

Now those things happened as examples for us. They are supposed to keep us from longing for evil things, as the people of Israel did.

So don’t worship statues of gods, as some of them did. It is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink. Then they got up to dance wildly in front of their god.”

1 Corinthians 10:5–7 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)

Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness.

Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved.

Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play.”
