Preface to the New Edition

Why a new edition of Scripture and Truth? The positive reception that greeted the original edition of Scripture and Truth stimulated interest in creating a new edition. But more significantly, the issues treated in the old edition have not vanished from contemporary theological debate. What are ways to interpret Scripture in a responsible fashion? These questions have, if anything, taken on greater prominence in the Christian community. For this reason the demand for Scripture and Truth has not abated.

The essays in this book do not shy away from the hard questions nor from sparking controversy if need be. A few illustrations might prove this point. About Scripture and Truth

In what sense is the Bible the Word of God for Christians today? How should we think of the truthfulness of the Bible?

Scripture and Truth seeks to answer these key questions. It synthesizes, as have few other works, the apologetic reasons for an evangelical defense of biblical inerrancy. From a biblical, historical, or theological perspective each essay examines a challenge to belief in the integrity and reliability of Scripture. What emerges from these essays is a full-orbed restatement of this evangelical doctrine.

First published in 1983, Scripture and Truth will continue to strengthen the faith of many of God’s people in his reliable and truthful Word.
