A SHORT ACCOUNT

of

DR. LAWSON AND HIS WRITINGS.

While posthumous publications have in many cases added little to the fame of the departed, there have been others which have been found in all respects worthy of their talents; which have been welcomed with peculiar delight by the reminiscences which they awakened; and over which the hallowing influence of mortality hath shed a power which we cannot look for in the page of living wisdom. To the voice that speaks to us we listen as to a voice from the grave, and the spirit which works before us we regard as now at rest in heaven.

Such, we have no doubt, will be the experience of many in perusing these remains of Dr. Lawson; and to those who may have been strangers to his life and character, they will exhibit the counsels and spirit of a man rich in faith, and mighty in the scriptures. Dr. Lawson was born in the parish of West Linton in the shire of Peebles in 1749, and by the care of very pious parents was trained up in the fear of God. It has often been remarked ...

About Discourses on the History of David; and On the Introduction of Christianity into Britain

This volume from Presbyterian minister George Lawson includes two works. In the first, he works through the biblical portrait of King David, addressing his obedience and disobedience, faith and fears, and triumph and trials. He provides exegesis from Chronicles, the Psalms, and Samuel. The second work presents a history of Christianity in Britain from pre-Christian times to the beginning of the Reformation.
