Introduction

The Lexham Analytical Lexicon to the Septuagint is a new lexicon to aid your study of the Old Testament in Greek. It can serve as a compendium to any Septuagint text, but it is specifically based on The Lexham Greek-English Interlinear Septuagint: H.B. Swete Edition (Swete LXX). Every lemma used in the Swete LXX is included as an entry in the present volume. As an electronic resource for use exclusively in Logos Bible Software, this is a truly powerful tool that can be utilized alongside the many other features in the software. Consequently, this volume is the first of its kind in the world of Septuagint studies.

Using data curated for the Swete LXX, we created a lexicon with the following features that will maximally benefit the Bible scholar:

• A formal equivalent definition for each entry, along with the number of times the lemma is used in the Swete LXX

• A lemma-tagged headword that can jump-start a Bible Word Study in Logos from the right-click menu

• The abbreviations +NT and +AF to mark lemmas that occur in the New Testament or the writings of the Apostolic Fathers, respectively

• Hebrew and Aramaic equivalent lemmas, based on the Swete LXX to Lexham Hebrew Bible reverse interlinear, along with an English gloss, frequency of occurrence, and example references

• In the absence of Hebrew and Aramaic alignment, English contextual glosses of the Greek where the lemma is used in the deuterocanonical books, including usage frequency and example references

• A comprehensive table of all morphological inflections of the lemma (as found in the LXX), the parsing of the inflection using Logos Greek Morphology, the number of occurrences of each inflection, and a link back to the primary entry

• Inflections and corresponding morphological abbreviations that are organized as they might be in conjugation and declension tables found in typical Greek grammars

As with the The Lexham Analytical Lexicon to the Greek New Testament, it is our hope that The Lexham Analytical Lexicon to the Septuagint enriches your study of the Scriptures in the original Greek.

Logos Bible Software Greek Morphology Codes

The present version of this morphological scheme is intended to provide support for a form-based notation. Where more than one parsing/declension option is possible, we intend to provide the most likely parsing(s) of the word in question.

If more than one code is deemed appropriate (not simply possible, but appropriate) for the word in question, the order of these codes is considered significant. The first code is deemed to be most likely, the second code deemed the second most likely, and so on.

Rather than describe or define each term, definitions in the Glossary of Morpho-Syntactic Database Terminology are linked where appropriate.
