Preface

This book was birthed just a few months ago, before the most challenging time of my life. It seems as though we can experience joy at times of sorrow; we also experience sorrow during times of great joy. Valley experiences occur throughout Scripture; often the greatest growth of one’s life occurs during the low times of life. This devotional came about at that time in my life.

In May 1999, the company with whom I was employed, decided to relocate me to Kansas City. Kansas City is my original home. However, after coming to faith in Jesus in 1980, in Dallas, God gave me opportunities to establish ‘new’ families within the Body of the Messiah in all of the cities in which I had lived. Being always single, my life was transient. I was transfered to Nashville, Tennessee, in March 1995. I loved the city of Nashville; it was small but offered wonderful events. I loved the congregations in which I served; it was the first place I ever put down roots, never expecting to leave.

So when notice of my relocation came, I was very sad, knowing that the Lord was calling me to a different place—perhaps an uncomfortable place, but a place where I was going to need Him more than ever. Then, during vacation in early July, I mis-stepped and broke my foot. Healing did not occur and surgery was required one month later. Recuperation ...
